Obagi Products – Should You Give Them A Go?

Obagi has made headlines when it launched its formula for many of its skin care products particularly its Nu Derm line.  This is because, while definitely effective, Obagi products are very potent that most users tend to shy away from them because of their rather uncomfortable side effects during the treatment stage.  But they definitely do not last long.  Users reportedly experience swelling, redness and burning in the areas where the Obagi product is applied.  The peeling that follows after this, however, makes the journey worthwhile because what results is noticeably finer skin, diminished wrinkles and spots (hyperpigmentation) and it truly reduces acne breakouts.  It’s the perfect remedy for acne prone skin as users have definitely not experienced major breakouts save for a pimple or too.  It has a lasting effect.

I am not just talking about small changes here but really significant ones like firmer, younger skin that you would never thought was possible until Obagi.  These Obagi products contain really good ingredients in potent dosage that makes them work extra hard at keeping your skin flawless.  These ingredients include Vitamin C, Vitamin E, hydroquinone, phytic acid, Retin-A, tretinoin, among others.  Now if you use an entire system of a particular Obagi product, you should be able to protect your skin further from sun damage through the use of the sunscreen that goes with it.

In a nutshell, I recommend the use of Obagi products but it is better to buy them with a little help from a physician especially for products that are intensive and made especially for the acne-prone skin.  You may also want consultation for products with Retin-A and hydroquinone since people react differently to these ingredients.  If you only need to maintain a pretty well-balanced skin, you can find a gem in the Obagi-C Rx Systems.

Even QVC Sometimes Sells Obagi on TV

Yep, there was a partnership with QVC that happend a couple years ago and you can sometimes spot the products even on TV for mail order.

I haven’t caught wind of what kind of prices these are at but I imagine they aren’t better than anything you can find online. Considering the costs of running TV programs plus the profit that QVC would obviously want to take from the cut there probably isn’t a lot of room to save there.

Obagi Professional-C Serum 20%

This Obagi product is designed to provide antioxidant protection and a deep penetration to the dermal layer which can really help with preventing damage from UVA and UVB rays.

How to Use Professional-C Serums

To use this serum you will need to add 5 to 7 drops onto your face and neck before you apply your make up or sun cream.

You will need to cleanse your face before you use this serum and it has been reported that some people experience a slight tingling sensation when they use it but this stops are continued use of the product.

Avoid contact with your eyes on this product.

Obagi ELASTIderm Night Eye Cream

This night cream for your eyes is the one of the first night creams which actually boosts elastin in your skin which helps keep your skin firm and looking young.

It’s an anti wrinkle cream effectively but it works better than most because not only does it boost collagen but it boosts elastin as well which means your skin will stay firm and younger looking for longer and the results will be visible more quickly.

This is a very strong system and can lead to some severe side effects during the first few weeks of treatment. These can include, itching, peeling, sores and redness of the skin. Having said all that, you can see some rather spectacular results from the Obagi Nu-Derm system and it is a system you can use at home.

If you really only have minor skin problems then this system really isn’t for you. If you want to correct some major skin problems then this line of products will probably be your holy grail of skin care – but use wisely please!

How to Use the System

To use this system you will have to follow the instructions given to you by your doctor or healthcare professional. It usually involves a multi-step system of applying products to your morning and evening routine.

Depending on the kind of skin you have you should either go with the kit for oily or normal skin. There are a couple of products in the kit that can either contain SPF if you have normal skin, or without SPF if you have oily skin. If you are in doubt then I recommend going with the kit for oily skin – its better safe than sorry. You don’t want to end up breaking out because of the SPF ingredients.

Obagi Tretinoin Cream

This product is designed to help with skin renewal and the growth of healthy skin and can really help with problems such as acne, and skin ageing. With use of this product your skin will become smoother, softer and calmer as well as appearing more radiant and young. It can also help with symptoms of hyperpigmentation and acne scarring and can help your skin renew itself.

To use this product you will need to wash your face with a mild, non-medicated cleanser. Do not scrub. Allow skin to dry to 20-30 minutes before applying Tretinoin.

How to Use Tretinoin

It is important for skin to be completely dry to minimize irritation. Apply Tretinoin every other night with Obagi NuDerm Blender as directed by a physician. Use only half an inch of cream to spread over the face. Do not oversaturate the skin.

Avoid the corners of the nose, mouth, eyes, and open wounds. If excessive peeling or irritation occurs, then reduce use to two nights a week. If redness, swelling, or irritation continues, discontinue use.

Tretinoin Cream can be hard to find on the internet sometimes for some reason. Different skincare merchants carry different strengths of the cream, so you will have to do some searching if you’re interested in anything other than the .1%.

Obagi-C Rx Clarifying Serum

This product is the first and only prescription strength 4% Hydroquinone and Vitamin C Serum. It is designed to penetrate deep into the skin to build up collagen and eliminate the sign of fine lines and wrinkles. It is also designed to decrease melanin in your skin so can help with freckles and other pigmented areas of your skin. This is a great product for people who want to even their skin tone and get rid of age spots, freckles or other blemishes that are due to a difference in skin color. It is said to work really well for all sorts of people and is a very strong serum.

To use this serum you will need to purchase the Obagi C-Cleansing Gel and apply the serum after you cleanse your face in the morning. You may feel a slight tingling sensation as the product soaks into your skin. After you have applied this serum you should use the Obagi-C Rx C-Exfoliating Day Lotion followed by an SPF cream.

All in all, Obagi have some great products and when used correctly you will really be able to notice a huge difference in your skins appearance. Following a regime or an Obagi skin care system is the best way to achieve the results you want.
