My Obagi Nu-Derm System Review

UPDATE: This article is the most popular on the blog and because of that we have racked up over 100+ comments from users that are documenting and sharing their experiences. Before you leave this page I highly recommend that you check out all the comments below.

First, Let’s Look at The BAD: Peeling, Redness, and Side Effects

The worst part about using the Obagi Nu-Derm system is by far the peeling.

Here’s what some people have said about it, all of these are real comments we’ve received on this page over the past 3 years:

I started Nu-Derm Monday and peeled immediately with burning and reddness on Tuesday. I am sitting at my computer, burning, with a fan blowing on my face. I know the old saying – No pain, no gain, but this is ridiculous. How long will the burning continue?

Jennie on December 24, 2010

Hey! I have been using obagi nu-derm for about 7 weeks and I still have dry kind of peeling around my chin, nose and next to my lips. I also have seen red little circles like a pimple with no feel to it, also like a itchy rash in jaw line and sometimes in other places. They usually go away, but then start back up again in few days.

Kristi on April 11, 2011

Initial reactions (lasting a good 6 weeks) were pure hell, angry throbbing skin, which crusted over. Upon waking not only had I appeared to age 10 years, my skin was so paper dry the only relief was to stand under the shower and rehydrate it, only then to repeat the procedure of layering on all the creams. At one point I struggled to open my eye as my cheek had swollen up, and the cracking around my mouth and nose made me feel like I’d been plunging my head in a vat of acid. The worst was the red flushing. The colour of a tomato, and no make up could hide it.

Mikayla on April 19, 2011

It will definitely get worse before it gets better. Been using Nuderm for 3 weeks and it’s definitely still peeling and burning and red.

Jamie on May 8, 2011

No Pain No Gain? Let’s Look at the Good: Real, Dramatic Results

Again, here are real comments found below that some people are leaving about their experiences with this system:

8 weeks on and OMG, clear, gleaming blemish free skin, not a hint of pigmentation spots, tightened pores and diminishing wrinkles. My skin is glowing with a luminosity and has never in my life looked this good. It really does take a very long time for your skin to accept and tolerate the products, but stick with it! Try to tell yourself if you want extreme results you will have to go through the extreme reaction phase, it is totally worth it.

Mikayla on April 19, 2011

I love this system. For me the results are well worth the cost, the sunburned look, the peeling, flaking skin, and the accentuation (at first only) of wrinkles. The Clarisonic sonic facial cleanser is the key to surviving the peeling. As for the sunburned part, throw on a little bronzer and pretend you’ve been outdoors in the summer sun.

Giselle on June 12, 2011

My face did get very red for several weeks but it seemed to have been a result of the blood circulating more to rebuild my skin. I have had dramatic improvement with my skin. I had NUMEROUS age spots prior to using this medication. The results were unbelievable! I have to admit that I peeled “like a snake” for probably 6 weeks. But the results were a new unblemished and spot free skin. You could actually see the brown age spots peel off.

Kerry on August 18, 2009

Yesterday, my face did a monumental peel…I was literally pulling sheets of dead skin off my face. I looked like something from a Zombie film!! BUT…it has been worth every bit of it. The melasma that I have had on my upper lip for the past 2 years has faded significantly. I have a much clearer more even toned complexion. My skin feels younger and firmer ( I am in my 40′s). The skin around my eyes also looked dry and wrinkled during this time….I looked like a shrivelled up 80 year old, but that peeled yesterday too and looks much better now! Stick with the programme it is worth it.

After trying to Obagi Nu-Derm System myself and reading the experiences of many different women online I’ve decided to write this brief article detailing it all. While Obagi Nu-Derm is an effective system overall, the side effects might turn you off so I recommend reading this before you make any decisions on buying.

What is the Obagi Nu-Derm System?

Obagi Nu-Derm is a skin care line of products which helps prevent and treat many skin conditions when used as a routine system together. The system is designed to fight acne, photo ageing and other skin problems. The system itself contains seven products which are designed to transform your skin. Here they are:

7 Obagi Nu-Derm Products and Prices

Thumbnail Name Price
Foaming Gel $15-$20
Toner $18-$18
Clear $60-$70
Exfoderm Forte $25-$30
Blender $55-$65
Sunfader $50-$55
Healthy Skin Protection SPF 35 $15-$20

The system works by renewing your skin cells and can help treat moderate to severe photo damaged skin.

Some of the components are prescription only and you will require a prescription if you wish to use this system correctly. However, you can purchase the non prescription elements from a drug store but the system is best used together.

How Obagi Nu-Derm Works

The system is designed to resurface your skin by using skin cell renewal. Your skin will be put through a treatment process which helps to renew skin cells and leave you with radiant and beautiful skin.

You are supposed to use the system daily for 6 weeks and usually you will notice the best differences if you use the system for 3 full cycles of 6 weeks at 2 or 3 weeks apart.

The main concern with Obagi is the severe side effects which can be very irritating and painful.

The Obagi Nu-Derm Review

In the beginning my experience with Nu-Derm was horrible. Really, it was pretty bad and I wondered if using this system was a mistake. But before I let this turn you off completely, let me explain.

During the first 2-3 weeks of use several patients experience severe peeling, redness and sores on their skin due to the cell renewal and because it uses chemicals to resurface your skin you will notice a lot of redness and sometimes pain. If you are using the system and this occurs then don’t worry because it is normal but it can be tough to remain using the routine.

The Obagi Nu-Derm Skin Care Starter Set

The Obagi Nu-Derm Skin Care Starter Set

There are help forums and support groups on the internet which are designed to help Obagi patients through these side effects and remain using the system since the first couple weeks are so bad.

Hydroquinone is one of the key ingredients in Obagi Nu Derm and is a very strong ingredient which can cause adverse affects if not used correctly. With the Obagi system you are unlikely to see these affects but you can never be sure. This is a negative for the Obagi Nu-Derm system and may put a lot of people off using the system.

Using Obagi for the first time is best done with a doctor’s supervision or support because you will need it. You will be more comfortable if you are walked through the instructions and are able to discuss the results or side effects you are having. With a specialized and prescription system such as this you are advised to seek medical assistance during your first use. Only then can you purchase the products alone.

A lot of people, myself included, notice a difference in their skin about three weeks into the treatments. This can be frustrating because for the three weeks prior to the positive differences you will probably experience a great deal of side effects, including peeling, itchiness, redness, sores and blisters which can really mess up your personal schedule.

I never experienced blisters but I did have some red peeling skin that was pretty itchy.

While some people experience this for only a day, others will experience it for up to two or three weeks – it all depends on your skin.

If you really have trouble with your skin than the Nu-Derm System is your best ally, as long as you can endure the side effects for a couple weeks if necessary.

If you really have trouble with your skin than the Nu-Derm System is your best ally, as long as you can endure the side effects for a couple weeks if necessary.

If appearance is an issue for you at either work or in your personal life then I’d suggest you use something else to help your skin unless you think you can put up with three weeks of not leaving the house.

Of course, the results speak for themselves and you can really notice a big difference in your skin if you follow the system rigidly. I think the major problem with Obagi Nu-Derm is that so many people give up when they start to experience the side effects; very few people maintain the course and see it through. I think if you do use it you should really consider that you will have to put up with side effects for a while and that it will be worth it. Of course, this is easier said than done. They do have support groups and forums online to help people through these hard stages.

In my opinion, the plus sides outweigh the down sides for Nu-Derm.

You will experience some severe side effects and because you are required to use the system for 6 weeks and to keep up the differences you will need to use it for a few cycles it can be a very hard and time consuming way to keep your skin clear and radiant.

If you’re worred about the side effects there are alternatives.

Other forms of skin care treatment such as MicroDerm Abrasion can really help your skin and aren’t as invasive or painful as Nu-Derm can be. As for the results I am not sure, since I have never tried Microderm Abrasion, but I do know that Nu-Derm gave me great results.

But in the end, it all depends on what you are prepared to do for beautiful skin.

All in all, I’d say that the Obagi Nu-Derm system probably does appeal to some people and you are likely to see great results but in terms of the side effects you will have to be a pretty strong person to put up with the initial side effects.

Of course, it all depends on what kind of a person you are and what sort of side effects you are willing to put up with, if any. To conclude, Obagi has horrible side effects but comes with great results. In the end I was really pleased with the look of my skin and for me the side effects were worth it.

If you really want to use an at home product system then I’d suggest something from Obagi which is less abrasive i.e. The Obagi C-System which contains less potent chemicals and can really make your skin look fabulous, check out my review on the Obagi-C RX system.

Other Obagi Nu-Derm Reviews

Something that Finally Worked For Me

by Stephanie Rogers, Denver, CO USA

I tried so many things to get rid of hyperpigmentation on my cheeks. Nothing worked! When my plastic surgeon suggested Obagi, I was extremely doubtful that it would work.

Within a couple of days, my skin was peeling, red, tight, and uncomfortable. By the end of week two, my skin under the peeling was soft and dewey.

By the end of week four, the hyperpigmentation was around 80% gone. My skin was self-hydrating. My pores were TINY. I’m 39 and my skin looked better than it did when I was 25!

If you can live through the ugly-peelie stage, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT!!!!!

Easy to Use But Don’t Overdo It!

by P G Fried, Minocqua, WI, USA

I am 45 years old, getting lots of age spots on my face and neck over the past few years and a bit afraid of a chemical peel just yet. This seemed like a good alternative after all of my research. Overall I was very happy with my results and intend to do a second round, the first one was about 4 months. The product routine is very easy to follow, not a lot of time involved. Be careful in the beginning not to get too aggressive with the quantities you apply, less is definitely better with these items. I don’t think I’ll have to do the entire program for that long next time, just some light maintenance.

Obagi Nu Derm Cured my Pigmentation Problems

by maria r. campbell, tucson, AZ usa

I have always had pigmentation problems. I have had chemical peels in addition to using a variety of bleaching creams, however I had little or no success. In November of 2004, I started using Nu-Derm Obagi. To my surprise after the second week, I notice my skin starting to clear, my pores diminished considerably and instead of the brown spots, I started getting a healthy rosy color cheeks. My complexion continues to improve with each day it passes by, it has never looked as nice as it looks now. Although I am not done with the cycle, but the results are fabulous. I no longer need to use foundation since my skin looks great. Although it is expensive, once I achieve the desire results I will continue with the maintenance system.

Beware the Side Effects

by Lori Lyche, Camarillo, CA usa

I am hoping to get better results after the full cycle (6 weeks) is complete. I have only been using the full line of Obagi for 2 full weeks but what a couple of weeks it has been! Lots of peeling and itchiness and my skin is so dry!!!! I am starting to notice some of the benefits though so we’ll see. My freckles are lighter and some are gone. My wrinkles appear to be less deep in some areas but as deep if not moreso in others. My lip area is the biggest problem area. They have gotten SO dry since I turned 40 and vertical lip lines have appeared gradually. SO far, Obagi has not helped but I will see what happens. It is too early to tell. I’ll review it later after a full cycle.

What Happend to Me After 12 Weeks of Using Obagi Nu Derm

by Laura A., Swansboro, NC usa

After 12 weeks of use: Dramatic difference in fine lines, particulary crows feet, which honestly dissappeared. My forehead lines had also dissapearded as well as a deep crease between my brows that softened nicely, but did not dissapear altogether. Noticeable fading of freckles and melasma, but didn’t completely

dissapear. Refined skin tecture. Noticably less oil production in T-zone. Stopped acne lesions. Drawbacks were Lots and Lots of peeling skin! Some days, by lunch time I had to exfoliate and reapply makeup because at conversation distance I had shreds of skin appearing from nowhere! Also quite significant discomfort at first, due to Tretinoin use daily, with Blender.

However my skin did adapt eventually and then it became the best skin I have ever had. Several months later I stopped using it though, and all the lines and hyperpigmentation, and oilyness came back. Needless to say, I have returned to Obagi Nu Derm product line.

All of the Steps and Products Involved

The following will go over all the Obagi products and describe how they work and what they fight against. All Obagi products have been scientifically formulated to be used in a system, each product complimenting the other.

There are five general steps in the Obagi NU Derm program. There is the Prepare Step, the Correct Step, the Stimulate Step, the Protect Step, and the Control Step. Each step in this process has a number of products that help one overcome their skin issues.

The first products that will be covered are the Prepare step products.

1. Prepare:

A. The Obagi Gentle Cleanser is a great product designed to be gentle on any type of skin from normal to dry and sensitive skin. This cleanser removes impurities, make up, dead skin cells, and excess oil without irritating your skin. It is recommended that one use this product in the morning when they get up and once they go to bed.

B. The next Prepare step product is the Obagi Foaming Gel. This foaming gel is designed to help against normal to oily skin. This product differs from the gentle cleanser becaue it works deeper into the skin. This product removes excess oil without over drying your skin. It is also recommended that one use this product right when they get up and right before they go to bed.

C. The third different type of Obagi product in the Prepare step list is the Obagi Toner. This product is made to restore one´s natural pH level. This toner is formulated to compliment the cleanser by removing any excess oils and dirt that may have been left behind. It also helps prepare the skin for the Correct and Stimulate Steps. Unlike most toner products, the Obagi Toner won´t excessively dry your skin. It will however, tighten your pores and your skin. Avoid the lower lids of your eyes as well as the corners of your mouth.

2. Correct:

The next list of products deals with the Correct Step. These products are designed to be applied after the Prepare Step products previously mentioned.

Obagi ClearA. The first Correct Step product is the Obagi Clear solution. This product is considered the major bleaching and correcting preparation in the Nu Derm Skin Health Restoration program. The Obagi Clear contains four percent hydroquinone as the main active ingredient. This powerful prescription strength ingredient suppresses the overproduction of melanin. The Obagi Clear is made to be used twice daily until you see the desired results and then it is to be used to maintain the results. People with naturally dark skin should only use this product once a day.

B. The next Obagi product in the Correct Stage is the Obagi Exfoderm Forte. This product is an exfoliant which is designed to help enhance hydroquinone and tretinoin activity. This product contains AHSs, or for those who don´t know, lactic acid and glycolic acid. Obagi Exfoderm Forte is made to be effective against thick, oily, large pores, and rough skin. The Exfoderm Forte is recommended to be applied during the evening time over the entire face. One should be be advised that you might feel a slight burning sensation upon application.

C. The last Correct Step Obagi product is the Obagi Exfoderm. This product is similar to the Exfoderm Forte except that this product contains phytic acid which is gentler than the AHAs named above. Obagi Exfoderm This Exfoderm helps with keratoltic and exfoliating activity. Just like the Forte, it also helps enhance the activity of hydroquinone and tretinoin. This product is formulated to be applied in the morning hours and is designated for dry, thin, and sensitive skin.

3. Stimulate:

The next step of products in the Nu Derm Skin Health Restoration program are designated for the Stimulate Step.

A. The first Stimulate Step Obagi product is the Tretinoin. The highly effective and powerful product is normally chosen and prescribed by your dermatologist. This product comes in either a concentration of 0.05% or 0.1%. This Tretinoin is made to have significant strength against your acne and the Correct Step products should be used to help your skin get accustomed to this product.

B. The other Obagi Stimulate Step product is the Obagi Blender solution. This remarkable product contains a specific formulation of 4% hydroquinone along with an activating base that is suitable to mix with tretinoin. This basically means that this product will complement the tretinoin activity while providing blending along with stimulation. In order to be able to blend, Obagi Blender must be used with tretinoin in specified proportions and used following the application of Obagi Clear, which is apart of the Correct Step already mentioned.

4. Protect:

The fourth preparation is the Protect Step. This lineup of Obagi products is formulated to help fight the effects that cause different skin irritations and damage.

A. The first Obagi Protect Step product is the Obagi Sunfader. This product contains padimate-0 for the protection from both UVA and UVB light rays. It also contains 4% hydroquinone. It has an SPF of 15 and is PABA free. The sun is responsible for eighty percent of the reason why people begin to age prematurely. It is well recommended that one use some type of product to fight against sun exposure. The Obagi Sunfader should be applied every four hours during the hours one spends in the sun. This product is great for those with pigmentation problems because it contains hydroquinone. This product should be applied after the use of either Exfoderm or Exfoderm Forte.

B. The next Obagi Protect Step product is the Obagi Sunblock. This sunblock works like any other sunblock by providing protection against both UVA and UVB light rays. This product is identical to the Obagi Sunfader except for that it does not contain hydroquinone.

C. The last Obagi Protect Step product is the Obagi Eye Cream. This solution is to be used for the soothing the delicate, thin skin in the eye area. It also helps reduce skin irritation. This product should be applied in the morning hours and also before you go to bed following the use of Exfoderm or Exfoderm Forte.

5. Control:

The fifth and last step of the Nu Derm Skin Health Restoration program is the Control Step.

Obagi TolereenA. The first of two Control Step products is the Obagi Tolereen. This product contains 0.5% hydrocortisone in a special moisturizing base. It is scientifically formulated to help suppress irritation, sensitivity, and itching. When first switching to Obagi products, one may experience a little irritation as your skin takes time to get used to the new solution. Obagi Tolereen will help ease your skin into the new Obagi product regimen. Tolereen can be used as needed, alone or with a moisturizer to increase comfort for any patient experiencing severe anticipated reactions.

B. The other Control Step product is the Obagi Action. Obagi Action is a mild, well tolerated moisturizer that can be used for comfort. This product can be used after such procedures as the Obagi Blue Peel, or it can be used to help sooth against Obagi products like the Exfoderm and Exfoderm Forte. The great thing about it is that it is gentle enough o use on any type of skin, and it will not leave your skin feeling oily and it will not clog your pores.

All these Obagi products are formulated to be used as part of a five step system and designed to be used in a daily regimen. When used as recommended, one will notice desired results.

I have just started the line. It is Sunday and I started on Tues night. The itching and redness are worsening. I guess I din’t realize that it would be this bad. And I have darker skin that is not generally sensitive at all. So this product is going to affect even the toughest skin (like mine). Yikes. I am peeling like a snake. But, I am determined to hang in there, especially since I paid so much for the system. My aunt who has freckled, heavily sun damaged skin like mine is rooting me on. She has had significant results. But, I understand that you cannot ever completely get off this system. Otherwise, it will all return.
So, I will check in later and give report after the next few weeks. This website is very insightful and helpful in the decision making process. Wish I had found it before I bought the line. your comments are encouraging and honest!

Sophia @ 11:27 am

Thanks for the kind words Caroline! It’s good to have someone like your aunt to keep you motivated – I’ve heard there are support forums for this system but nothing beats having a family member help out.

I’m looking forward to your report after you’re all finished. Would love to hear how it did (or didn’t) work out for you in the end.

caroline @ 5:40 pm

Okay, now I am almost two weeks into it. The peeling is terrible. I have sores in several spots. I quit using the Retin a around my mouth. Especially the frown line area. I was very raw here. Even though I don’t apply the blender there, i still peel daily in that area the most. The place I don’t peel that much in on my cheeks where the sun damamge is most pronounced. But, man, I can see the beautiful skin underneath starting to show. It is amazing how fast I could see this new skin coming out. The last place is really the sides of my cheeks to lighten up. But, the spots are definitely better already. Do you know if the intense peeling will continue for the full six weeks or does it peek around week two or three then start to decrease? I need something to look forward to. i am thankfulf or your website. CAroline

November 11, 2008

Sophia @ 1:35 pm

That’s great that you’re already seeing some results. Peeling should start to decrease for you soon. How was the peeling when your aunt used it? Did she experience the same time frame for peeling or was it different than you?

November 17, 2008

caroline @ 6:58 am

My aunt’s peeling seemed to be the same. I am three weeks into it. yea. My skin is not nearly as traumatized. It is smooth now, and my skin in so much improved. Amazing. Even my friends can’t believe it. I can’t get over how even my skin tone is becoming. My racoon eyes are gone! I now have peeling daily, but it is not cracking and sore. It is more of a superficial peel. My skin is soft and supple now without the toughness I had before. And it seems much more elastic. Not so dry and tight like it was before I even started the system. I still have a very pink glow right now. People keep telling me I am flushed. I will report in again. But so far, I am very pleased. I will try to send some before and after pictures.

Sophia @ 10:42 am

Thanks for the honest review! So about 3 weeks of peeling for you? I’m glad you had good results with it. Please give before and after pictures if you can so other people can see.

Jenny @ 7:47 pm

I have been using the system for about a month now. I stopped it for 10 days as I was going in for my laser hair treatments. Then I had to start up again…the peeling and the burning skin were the worst. I experience a lot of peeling around my mouth. I haven’t seen results yet but I know you have to be patient with this system.

November 25, 2008

Gail @ 10:26 am

I am gong to start Obagi and have a deadline for a trip; however, the holidays are here. How soon does the redness and peeling start? Do you have 2-3 days before that begins? IOW, can you plan to go out within first few days or does it get bad immediately. Another question–I have been using MD Forte for years. Will that help me have less severe redness and peeling? Thanks.

Sandy @ 5:46 am

Well, I am on my 7th week of Obagi and it has not been a very plesant experience. For that fact I had a total breakdown with my Doctor’s office today. They keep cheering me on because only 3 people have actually stuck with the program out of 28!! My skin is smoother and all the bad sun damage has faded, but my wrinkles are waaay worse. I am 50 and am very, very discourged with the increase of my wrinkles…I look 10-15years older. I have opted to do the laser resurfacing. I looked younger when I was using the Nutrogena line of products. I would not suggest this for anyone thinking it will help wrinkles…especially around your eyes. I have aged!

Sandy @ 5:49 am

Oh, and everything BURNS. There is nothing “soothing” about any of the products!

Linda @9;52 PM @ 6:58 pm

I’m in my 6th week of of this system, this week has been the worst..the first 5 were a piece of cake…I’m wondering why this week is the worst…am I suppose to stop it after my 6th week and then start up again after 2 weeks? I’m loving the Obagi and it has made a huge difference on my sun damaged face…this 6th week,is bad, almost like little hives on left and right jaw line and in the hollow of cheeks .The itching is bad and painful and feels like I have a horrible sunburn…is this normal into the 6th week, please can someone tell me..i don’t want to stop using it if I don’t have too…

Cece @ 2:05 pm

I’ve been using Qbagi since 12/3/08 up until about 2 weeks ago. I was really pleased with the results I got-clear skin, faded sun spots, tightening and lifting. However, after about six weeks, I noticed a discoloration to my finfernails. When I asked my doctor about this problem all she asked me was if I was taking any antibiotics or if I paint my fingernails. To which the answer to both questions is “no”. I suspected the discoloration might be due to this product. Then I went in for a brow and lip wax from my esthetician and she refused after I told her I was using Obagi. She told me she had several other clients who got a wax from her without mentioning that they were using this product where their skin acually came out during waxing! Ouch! Bottom line is Hydorquinone. It turned my fingernails yellow-ugly for a hula dancer! And I’m upset that my doctor didn’t mention anything about that or inform me about waxing while on this product. Anyone else with ugly discolored fingernails? So now I’ve stopped all the products with hydroquinone-will the hyperpigmentation come back and will my fingernails become clear again?

Michelle @ 10:44 pm

Hi,

I am in my 6th week of using the Obagi Nu-Derm (for oily skin). My skin looks a little smoother. However, I have not experienced any itching nor peeling. I followed the directions closely.

What am I doing wrong? Is this normal?

Any comment is appreciated. Thanks.

Elle @ 4:53 am

I’ve only just started the Obagi Nu Derm products and I’m feeling like I want to quit! If I knew how bad the side effects were going to be I wouldn’t have decided to choose this as an option.
I started on Thurs (30/4/009) night and by Monday (4/5/09) my skin was pealing very badly round the mouth, with some sores at the corners of my mouth. On Tuesday morning I stopped using the products as the peeling was very embarrassing and when I put my make-up on it highlighted all the nasty peeling skin even more. My job requires a lot of meetings with people and I have become very self conscious when talking to people. I don’t know whether to start up again or not. Maybe I’ll use the system every other day but I’m not sure if that will work. I really want to get rid of my freckles but this is too much for me to cope with, especially as I have lots of social event to got to soon including a family members wedding in 3 weeks.

Santana @ 8:03 pm

I started using the product last week of April 09, so it has been 2 weeks and Im blistering & have redness (Im a medium brown African American so if you can see the redness it has to be bad.) Im glad I found this page so I know Im not going crazy. I will hang in there.
AFRICAN AMERICANS – PLEASE NOTE that Product #3 in the kit says for us to use it ONCE IN THE MORNING and ONLY ON DARK SPOTS in the EVENING!!!!!! The people I bought mine from DIDNT tell me about this. This could explain some of my irration. Please any and all products before use!

I started on the Obagi System 5 days ago, and just yesterday I noticed slight peeling around my smile lines, nose, and areas around my mouth. Redness/sunburned feeling of the face seems to occur later in the day. At this moment, my face is feeling dry and a tad itchy. However, I will stick with the program as I’ve been told and read lots… that the results can be pretty significant. I may be a hermit for a bit, but I’m hoping it’s worth it. :) More updates to come!

I had started the Obagi Nu-derm program in Sept ’08 and must say, since then there has been no turning back. Ofcourse in the first few weeks there was alot of peeling and redness, but wow, in a matter of 2 months, my face had a new glow. All my lady colleagues at work were asking me whether I was doing a Crystal or Blue peel treatment. Since December ’08, all I have been using is the Nu-derm Number 6 (sunfader and sunscreen combo’s) and that too lasts me for months. I must say, it’s surely an investment towards my skin care. My Mum started using it as well as she has been getting compliments on her skin too. Oh yea, forgot to mention that during the whole process of peeling and new skin, The doc told me to stay away from getting facials, bleaching or waxing done as the skin is rejuvinating. Thanks to Obagi for this wonderful product.

I started Obagi Nuderm three days ago. I have followed the directions given to me by my private doctor perfectly. (cleanser, toner, exfoderm, blender and tretinoin-only PM plus sunfader) I too notice the skin is looking plump and younger, smoother aswell. Obviously I can still see all the acne spots and scars but even they feel calmer and smoother. Something is definietly working.

HOWEVER… my face is sooooo RED. So red that I don’t want to go outside. Luckily I am freelance so can take the time off for three weeks if really necessary! although I have a job tomorrow which I am dreading! Can anyone reassure me why my face is soooooo RED. It looks like severe sun burn, so embarrassing. I have some peeling but nothing to worry about considering I’m on treatment. I am worried that this redness will never go and that it is staining my skin colour.

HI suzie- I’m on my second week of using Obagi no side efects yet either. Do you eventually have some side effects? I was using Retin A micro and they switched to tazorac for deeper peeling? Let me know whow you are doing any peeling yet?

Cheryl @ 12:30 pm

Hi Michelle_ I have been using the obagi for 2 weeks now. I have not expierenced any peeling or rednees yet. Did you eventually start peeling? How are you doing on the obagi now? Let me know what you have expiereced.. I’m getting worried because I’m not having any reactions?? Thanks

My eyes are burning?
I read the brochure it never mention a word about it.

i’m also doubt about using this product. It’s already nine weeks past for using this product. However,it doesn’t seem good to me.Every morning, i expect to have any positive effect on my face. But everytime is disappointing.Until now,my face is still red and dry!!Though I have keep on having hydrating mask on my face,it still dry!And i can’t even have my make up!!!It’s too ugly for me and i suspect that isn’t it wrong for me to take this treatment?I have use over $15000 for this treatment.I really, really feel painful on my heart.I have no hope now..and is that a waste of money?i wonder if i have never, ever join this treatment.3 weeks later is the end of my treatment,is just like a bad dream for me!I don’t want to feel dry and red again!!

Hi – I started using Obagi in August 2009. In October I also noticed that my nails were turning orange. I racked my brain out and figured that they would grow out of it. I have gone to my regular doctor and she thought I had liver problems! When those test came back negative -she sent me to a dermatologist. The first thing he said was are you using hydroquinone?

I was in shock since I have racked my brain for months thinking what was I doing. He said that sometimes this happens and a woman who works in his office has the same thing. There is nothing you can do to get rid of the orange-it has to grow out. I am stopping Obagi for a while to see how my nails look. I may then just keep cler nail polish on as a protector and then go back to using Obagi and be really careful about washing my hands after I use the product or even wearing gloves to bed!

I’m 5 days in with virtually no side effects either. I’m following the instructions provided and wonder if I am doing something wrong as well. Did you get an answer and how are things going now?

Hi.

I started Obagi a week and a half ago. I havent started to peel at all! My skin has gotten a little red and breaking out just a little, but is this normal?

I just heard you peel really bad as soon as you start Obagi, but I havent at all!

July 18, 2009

Michelle-
Same here. No peeling at all and I am using exfoderm forte. Have you heard anything from anyone else?

I am really concerned about using this line. I am on week one and the wrinkles around my eyes are way more pronounced -in only a week! I am 40 and look much older than I did a week ago! I am worried -especially after reading Sandy’s comment. Is this only temporary?! Help!

i started my Obagi Nuderm sys last May and am still using it to date. I have acne and blotchy sckin but my acne is really bothering me so much. My friend told me that she knows someone with severe acne and that her acne vanished after using Obagi. I’ve tried so many anti acne products. None of them seemed to work. So even though Obagi is quite expensive, I just gave in and got a set. It’s been more than 2 months now. I noticed my skin peel during the first few days. Today, it still peels. Not as worse as the first few weeks but is still peeling! And I have more acne on my cheeks and I noticed that there are more tiny bumps on my forehead which were not there before. It’s making me worried. I have really sensitive skin and before purchasing, I told the doctor about that. She said, it’s fine. So i took her word for it.
I’m just so worried whether I should continue and is my skin gonna get better because it seems to be getting worse. If what I’m experiencing is normal, then when can i see really good changes?
I have paid so much and I want my money’s worth.

Hello, this is crazy. I have been on Obagi since early March. My fingernails are also turing ugly orange color. I also talked to my Dr about it, with no surprise Dr did not know what could have been doing it. I of course was thinking all along hydroquinone. I was also thinking Mercury. Since I did read on the internet that Obagi does have mercury in it. Have your nails gone back to their original color??

I was in my late 40′s when I started using Obagi-C, C-Clarifying Serum with Vitamin C 10% and hydroquinone USP 4% and have used it for over 4 years. They were lighter at first and continued to peel until they were completly removed. My face would get dry and cracked but I would just avoid putting the serum on that area until it returned to normal. My routine was to use Retin A in the AM and the Obagi Serum in the PM. After using it for several weeks I began using the Obagin in the AM also. I have had sooo many people comment on my skin. I actually had a before and after picture at a doctor’s office for a different proceedure and the most dramatic results was my skin. The doctor was extremely impressed! I have not used it regularly for over the last six months and only one age spot has begun to return. I certainly plan on starting up again.

Cathy @ 12:07 pm

Hi michelle,

I started 4 days ago (normal to oily skin) been using 1, 2, 4, and 6 steps with a little side effect itchy but I can tolerate. Looks like almost everybody here are experiencing peeling and redness, will I experience that soon? I noticed on my forehead some acne but not bad, and i’m scarred with the next week about peeling. But I guess i wanted to have beautiful skin so I will stay with it.

Don’t worry michelle you are not alone, don’t have the peeling and redness yet. i wonder also if the products I ordered sometimes I think it was fake because I don’t see peeling on my face yet.

Cathy @ 12:00 pm

For updated on my Nu-Derm, I started Sept 4 and it’s my second week this week. So far I don’t have peeling yet but I noticed that my forehead some small acne and itcy and some redness. I wonder when is the time when I see peeling on my face! But I don’t see any progress yet, but I will not give up will go all the way until I achieve the skin I really wanted. Will update you next week!

Hello everyone, great to see that there is a support system out there. Well, I’ve been using the system for 2 1/2 weeks now. I am an African-American and was searching for help related to my acne. I must say that I, too, wanted to quit in the first week. There were so many outbreaks; but after another week, outbreaks have seen to slow down. However, I have not experienced any peeling like most. I was wondering if I was doing something wrong but was assured that everyone reacts different. So, with that said, I’ll give you all an update later. Good luck to everyone.

I’ve been using obagi for a week now and i to am not experiencing any peelng nor lightening, i am using the clear, exfodermforte, blender and retin o.o5% , intially a few months ago i only purchased the clear with retin a gel 0.025%, i had great esults with this, and intially i peeled a fair bit. i am just wondering why this is not happening with an even more intense regime??anyways i will keep at it, but am thinking of upping my dose of retin a to 0.1% as i thnk my skin is used to the lower dose now.

Hi everyone,
I have just got though my first week on Nu-Derm. OMG!!! Yesterday, I was really in a bad state. My face was so sore, red & peeling from my nose downwards. I could hardly speak it was so tight & painful. Today it is slightly better as the dry skin has come off/rubbed off however it’s still very sensitive & red. I look hideous like someone has thrown a pan of boiling water in my face (Lobster, springs to mind). I must admit I’m not sure how I going to face my colleagues & clients at work tomorrow. I have been told I can’t use any foundation to cover up, is this true????
Hope this doesn’t last long as I have some important social functions to attend in the next couple of weeks. I have started applying Petroleum Jelly to worse areas i.e. round mouth & nose just so a can talk. Despite this I am still positive & look forward to normal skin again minus the hyper pigmentation. Good luck to everyone else :-)

I started OBAGI on Wednesday and the next morning my face started turning red so I stopped it for a day since I don’t like to look like a snake. I have been using retin A for over a year now and my skin looks radiant but it has never been able to clear my acne completely. I notice that I am getting some new big ugly looking pimples in my forehead, an area where I never got them before. I am scare, I hate acne. I don’t remember how clear skin looks anymore. I am going to start all over again with all 6 steps and stick with it for a few months, if it doesn’t work for me I’ll stop. I’ll keep you all posted and good luck to you all.

acnelady @ 1:02 pm

oh by the way, i am going to go see my dermatologist next thursday and i am hoping she gives me some pills to stop the process of acne forming. i bought the obagi online without telling my dermatologist so i am not sure if it is a good idea to taKe acne pills in conjuction with the obagi nu derm system. Anybody taking antibiotics too? Please let me know. i just want to have pretty skin ;) ;)

Hi I am only two days into Nu-derm and the itchy redness has begun for me as well. My concern is age, I keep reading women in their 40′s and 50′s using this system. I am only 23 and wanted to correct light scarring from having picked at my face nervously for a few years. However I am wondering if this system is possibly too abrasive for someone my age?

I have been using the Nu Derm (normal-oily) for one week. On the 3 day I started noticing some peeling on the lower part of my face, it is pretty much gone noe. On the second day I noticed some redness kind of like a sunburn but it wasn’t too bad. So far I like what I see. My husband has noticed the change and even made a comment about possibly using it… but not sure if he can since he shaves everyday..

Teetee @ 10:07 am

Any African Americans using Obagi Nu-Derm out there? I am of a slight dark skin and started using Obagi 5 weeks back. First two weeks, no noticeable change. 3rd week, cheeks were noticeably lighter than the rest of my face. 4th week, a bit of peeling here and there and sensitivity. However, come week 5, I now have two very prominent face colors!! Upper bit of my face is light brown, lower bit from lower cheeks down is darker brown. I feel like a zombie. Hubby was alarmed at the discoloration and asked that I go back to see my Esthetican. I will be seeing her this week. I also noticed some peeling. I am using the 6 step process i.e cleanser, toner, clear, blender exoderm and sun cream. My week 5 ends on Thursday. I am hoping that week 6 will reveal a miracle. Any one with a similar experience out there?

October 1, 2009

Julie @ 4:13 am

Could someone tell me why I have been told to mix Blender with Tretinoin before applying to face. Obagi instructions say apply one before the other. I have had very little peeling and wonder whether this is why?

October 5, 2009

Dan @ 6:35 am

Cathy I notice you are not using step 3 (clear) step 5 (blender) or the Retin-A (tretinoin).

The reason you are not experiencing any redness or peeling is because you are not using any of the products which cause the redness or peeling :) … or most importantly the dramatic results the Nu-derm system can bring. Which explains why you are seen no progress.

Step 4 (Exfoderm) which you are using is only an AHA exfoliator which used alone is unlikely to cause any reaction.

I hope this helps.

Cheryl @ 7:59 pm

I just started using the Obagi NuDerm system 6 days ago. I am experiencing pretty significant peeling, especially around the mouth. My skin is pretty tight, feels windburned, is very dark pink and I have blister/sore like spots in a few places. I had pretty good skin before but thought this would rejuvenate and help with sun damage. I’m concerned after reading comments that the results are not permanent and your skin returns to it’s previous condition (which I was not aware and have not read that before) and I have experienced some fine lines around the eyes that I did not have. Perhaps this is due to the tightening/windburned feeling and peeling. It is tough to hang in there and continue usage. I’m a little apprehensive that my skin will not be “normal” again although I’ve seen before/after pics that are significant. Has anyone experienced the same that I am?

October 15, 2009

Kathy @ 11:10 am

After giving birth I had develop a lot of brown spots so I started using Nu-Derm. It was expensive but I was desperate. And yes I went through all the side effect of redness, peeling (really bad), sun burn and dryness. But after 2/3 weeks my skin was beautiful. No more brown spot, all the acne is gone, even skin tone, look a lot younger. I was so happy with the result. After one year of using the Obagi, I decided to stop since I heard it’s no good to use one particular skin care line for too long. My acne is back but no brown spot. I am debating if I should go back using Obagi or try another products. My reluctant is that it does contain strong chemical, bleaching your skin too much is no good in the long term. I think all women should use skin care products to keep our skins looking good and healthy. Anyone has suggestion?

January 31, 2010

Melanie @ 3:36 pm

I have been using the full Obagi regime since mid November. I experienced a very little peeling the first few days, but nothing after that. My age spots have faded a little and my face feels a tightness that I used to feel sometimes when I haven’t gotten all the soap off my face. I have uped the Retin A to 0.1 with no difference that I can see. Is this all I can expect? Is it working like it should?

Denise Mathis @ 8:29 am

I began using this system as described on Jan. 28, 2010: Cleanse, toner, Clear, Exfoderm and Tretinion (every 3 days). By the second day my skin was swollen, red, peeling and very itchy. I called the doctor’s office where I purchased this line and the person who sold it to me said that these were normal side affects. I do not know if I believe her. How can swelling be a normal side affect? I have not used the Tretinion in 3 days and my face is still swollen. It has to be from the Clear and Exfoderm. I am going to continue to use as described and will place an update next week.

Idid use this system last yr but was so impatient with the peeling i gave up, so this is take 2, started using this on 31st Jan 2010 and its been now 5days. Peeling started after 3days and now i am red!!! Have been using numbers 1 2 3 4 and 6 in the morning and 1 2 3 5 (blender) and tetrinoin mixed together at night.
Because i experienced this last yr i’ve taken the 1st 2 weeks off work because i normally wear make up everyday due to hyperpigmentation and with excessive peeling thats not possible! You just end up reapplying it throughout the day. Hopefully by week 3 it will have calmed down but from what i can remember it took a while for the peeling to subside.
You can wear foundation, the recommmended is mineral make up that still lets your skin breathe. I used a liquid foundation that is very expensive but covers well called Lycogel.
I’m hoping i can stick it out this time and will probably have the blue peel around weeks 12/13 which i’ve heard you definately have to take a week off from work because it looks horrendous :O
i didnt visit forums last time so will get motivation from everyone here to keep it up this time around!
does vaseline stop the creams from working as well as they should? i used it this morning all over my face to reduce the tightness.

I have been useing Obagi Condition & enhance system since sept.2009.. I am a woman of color. The first 3 weeks my face broke out with a lot of little bumps or havies whatever you want to call it. I stopped use step 6 (the sunscreen) and within 4 days my skin began to clear. now my face is a lot lighter than the rest of my body.i stopped useing it in mid jan and finally i can see my color coming back… so women of color dont use this unless you want to look like michael jackson ( thats the nick name my co worker gave me)

Dayna @ 9:40 pm

Denise: I started using the product last Saturday (Jan 30) and by Tues I started peeling around my mouth. By Friday the peeling around my mouth (picture the cracked glaze on a glazed donut when you squeeze it) was so bad that it was painful to eat and talk. I remember my doctor told me that i WILL experience peeling, redness, sensitve skin, itchiness, etc. but I should not be in pain. I saw my doctor again on saturday because of the severe peeling. She said the mouth area is typically the most sensitive and my reaction was not that unusual BUT she still had me cut down on the use of the exoderm forte and retin A. I’ll be using the Exoderm only ever other day or less. She wants me to either use a smaller amount of the Retin A or only use it every other night. She was clear to explain that cutting back on the product use WILL lengthen the time it will take to see results, but it will lessen the side effects. She mentioned that she knows some other doctors may just tell you, “hey, those are the side effects, just stick with it.” He response to them, “have you even tried these products?!” I really like her :)

Denise,
I started using Nuderm on February 2nd. My face is not itchy nor swollen yet but I did have some peeling and tightness on my skin. before I used Nuderm, I read all the comments here and asked my doctor. She said the side effects depend on the amount we put on our face so she warned me to make sure that I only apply a gram or 1/2 a gram as directed. In short, she told me not to exceed the pea-sized allowed for all of the creams. I am just wondering how do you feel nowadays? Let me know..thanks. I just want to know what to expect. Thanks again.

Eva @ 3:04 pm

hydroquinone: do a little research on this chemical, you will find out that besides turning your nails yellow it is not good for humans, with long term use, it can cause liver damage- and possible cancer- it is banned in Europe and some parts of Asia. I bougth the whole system and on day 3 developed tiny blisters that I thought looked like acne, the dermatologist, told me to do forte (acid portion) everyother day, if it does not get better to discontinue that portion, ya great, that’s like the most important part, to get rid of wrinkles. Well, let’s see how it goes.

Kim @ 4:01 am

Hi, I am white caucasian and I used the NuDerm system religiously for 14 weeks.

The first 2 weeks were very painful to the point where I was taking painkillers at night to be able to go to sleep. However I thought that the dramatic side effects must mean that something good was happening ‘at a cellular level’.

The peeling continued for the entire 14 weeks, on my nose and chin, but not on the problem areas which are hyperpigmented, my forehead and cheeks.

My Dr. had told me that the course lasts for 12 weeks, so after 14 I was very disappointed to find practically NO change in my skin apart from looking older due to the terrible dehydration and wrinkling. He told me that because my hyperpigmentation is very deep that I should have to do another 12 week course.

I considered it carefully, but it wasn’t just the pigmentation that had not changed, the open pores were still the same, as well, and I did not have a healthy glow at all, I looked dreadful and had developed a deep wrinkle down one cheek where I had never before had a line.

I could not wait to get some decent moisturizer on my poor skin, and thankfully, 2 weeks later after some TLC it looks much the same as it did before I started.

I’ve looked at all the before and after pictures on the internet and they all look v. impressive, but my own before and after pics look almose identical.

So far as my experience goes it was a waste of money and of 14 weeks, where at times I couldn’t leave the house because I looked so ghastly.

Started the system on Feb. 11. So glad to find this forum. I have experienced the redness, sunburn feeling, and extreme peeling around my mouth and chin. It’s been 6 days now. I was thinking about stopping by the Dr.’s office to check if what I was experiencing was normal. From what I have read tonight, I guess it is. I am 55 years old, and have lots of lines around my mouth and 3 brown spots on my forehead. The brown spots have faded considerably in just these 6 days. But my mouth, gee whiz, it looks like I have red lipstick smeared all around it. That skin starts to feel tight and peel a couple of times a day. I started putting a little vasaline on it, just to make it feel better. My skins really stings when I wash my face now – even water hurts. I haven’t used the tetrinoin the last two nights. I guess I will cut back on the amount of product I use in order to keep going. I check with the nurse at the dermatologist as well

Hello, I ve been doing Obagi for 6 days now, and like many on here, i have what looks like severe sunburn, incredibly dry flaking skin, so tight i can hardly open my mouth to eat my dinner! I spoke to a rep for the product earlier on and she suggested buying some of the vit c 10% serum to help ease the tightness. I initally used tretinoin under my eyes but like others, they are now so dry and wrinkly. Does anyone know if this will improve? I can put up with everything but the idea that i could make my lines under my eyes worst would be devestating.

Jane @ 2:25 pm

Is it okay to use vasoline? I mean, does it effect the treatment at all. I’d kill to put something on my skin, the tightness is so uncomfortable.

I am on day 17 too but it seems that I am breaking out. I thought it’s supposed to control acne? my face was oily before now it feels tight and dry. When I smile, I can see my wrinkles more defined now. I also noticed that my lips become dry. first week I was already peeling, 2nd week, no peeling but I was red, and now that I am on my 3rd – I am peeling again.

Grace @ 10:30 am

I decided to go for Obagi, based on your reviews and comments on the systems. When my Dermatologist, suggested this treatment I was quite informed about how it would go. Thanks for all your suggestions and review.
I am an Asian Indian, with lots of open pores and sun spots on my face, thanks to the country I belong to.Presently in Seattle WA. But Obagi seems to be working.
I am 3 days into this treatment, was peeling like crazy until yesterday( 2nd day), lips are dry and parched, I wonder why. Not sure of any controlling medicine for this. My Dr. said not to use any product as this would suppress the effects of Obagi, So I am sticking to this regime, so far so good.
Results are showing up and I feel skin is smother and softer, in 3 days! Works like magic I thought :) .Will keep you posted on how things work for me, in couple of weeks.

I have horrible acne, along with the dry skin. This was definitely not what I anticipated, and now I am embarrassed to leave my house. This was a terrible choice for me.

Hi, I began Oabgi last night was doing it for 3 days before but didnt use the tretinoin til last night. I noticed some peeling yesterday evening and have noticed my lips very dry too. Im applying Vaseline every hour or so but just to my lips as it will make the products less effective on my face. My skin is sooo sensitive so I am anticipating a change tomorrow after another night with the tretinoin. I am not expecting to like the transition and I am lucky I am off for a week as I hava a job I need to look smart in. Good to find this site. xx

Jane Medina @ 8:46 am

To Jane
I also had the dry flaky and super tight skin. I started applying the moisturizer in the morning – that’s after applying those things from Obagi. it helped me…hope it helps you too!!!!

kate @ 3:11 pm

i dont think i can cope withthis treatment anymore! day 4 i have blisters severe soreness, crackin scabbing. I cant bear it! i applied the vit c this morning instead of anything else. im not applying anthing tonite but vaselinr, dont know if thats right but im in a lot of pain. Any advise ou there? x

manpi @ 8:30 am

hi Kate, how much of the products are u using 1/2gram or a gram? maybe c your dermatologist and cut down if its gram. vaseline does help i used it on the corners of my mouth.
i am on day 24 now (3 and half weeks) the peeling and tightness has subsided considerably. am still still a little red but not in pain anymore when i apply the creams esp number 4. wake up to a flaky face jus wipe it off with a flannel and can then apply make up well. however, i am duin a 12.5hr shift tonight so am hoping the peeling will hold off so my make up lasts :) will see what happens.
skin is smoother, some facial marks hav decreased but pigmentation is still there though it has lightened a little, got to be honest was hoping for more :(

Sara @ 10:48 am

This is miserable–red skin that hurts, welts, cystic acne that I haven’t had since high school, and a steep price tag to boot. Not sure I want to put up with the weeks of misery–should have taken a few leave days and had a chemical peel to get all the misery overwith in one fell swoop.

Teresa @ 12:29 pm

Hi all…today is day 16 for me of using the Obagi Nu-derm system. The first few days I had very very tight dry skin. I also had and still have the flaking and peeling going on all over. Some days the flaking is worse than others. But after about a week, I guess my skin got use to it because it is no longer tight feeling. I also did have a couple little tiny whiteheads come out randomly and only 2 actual pimples to speak of on my jaw line. Other than that, I have no sensitivity at all when I touch my skin. I use steps 1,2,3,4 in the morning and use steps 1,2,3 at night, with step 5/plus tretinoin every other night. I don’t really have too much redness at all except for around my mouth and nose. I think I may increase the usage of the blender/trentinoin maybe 2 days on 1 day off and see how it goes from there. I definitely see a difference in the pigment and overall tone of my face, it is more even and smooth. So far I am very happy with the results. Can’t wait to see the end!

I’m on my 5th week of using Obagi NuDerm and I’m still peeling and red. It does feel softer though. My skin wasn’t terrible before but just wanted better looking skin as I’m getting older and would love to not where foundation if I don’t want to. I’m thinking about cutting back on the retin a (every other night). What do you think?

Kathy @ 9:28 am

It more effective to combine those 2 together.

Kate @ 10:13 am

Hi everyone,

I’ve been using the Obagi NuDerm since Sunday only and the side effects have started already. Yesterday I looked like I had a nice tan but today it’s worse even if I wear less makeup. The problem is everyone thinks I put too much makeup on or that I’ve changed foundation which is too dark for me. I actually say to people what’s going on but since I work in a big company with a lot of customers I can’t let everyone know.:-( Anyway, as long as it won’t be worse I can live with this. The worst area is around my mouth. It feels very sore and dry and started to peel.

I am 50 years old and had some discoloration on my upper lip that looked like a mustache, as well as sun damage on my cheeks. I am on day 12 and wondering if I can finish! My poor face is beet red, I am peeling especially around my chin and and upper lip- I can literally see the skin die previous to peeling. In my sleep last night I started rubbing my face in my pillow and woke with ribbons of peel all over me. I look like I have leperousy. Prior to flaking, the skin becomes very wrinkled thus aging me about 10-15 years. Finding out that the majority of users of Obagi have these identicle symptoms, I am reassured. I am a medical professional and the studies on Obagi Nu Derm are impressive. I think I am having a normal reaction now, and I truly believe that ultimately this will be an investment in our future skin health. One thing- keep all the solutions aways from the edges of your lips- it gives you a kind of border of white around your beet red face, but it really prevents your lips from chapping. Hey, its not as bad as childbirth!!

Allana @ 11:53 am

I started the Obagi Nu Derm system 5 days ago! I have little blisters and they itch like CRAZY. I understand this is a long process and I am in for the long haul, but is this normal.

Grace Mar10'10 @ 1:53 pm

I am into week 3 of the baji Nu Derm. My Dr. suggested using the Nia 24 Skin strengthing complex to help the ugly look of scaly look on face and this is very helpful. As a suggestion to all others you are facing the same situation…may be this can help.

For me I am still seeing scaling and my face has started peeling on the forehead, cheek and under eye area. But looks good so far.

Will write back again, on how things work out for me.

Judy @ 6:31 pm

I started Obagi a week and half ago and the first night and the next day were ok but the third day was terrible I looked like I had been in a boxing ring so I didnt use it for two days. I went back to the MD and he talked me into the tollereen, it’s just expensive hyrocortisone but it worked I looked so much better the next day but dont by the tollereen just get some cheap hydrocortozone. I think my age spots are starting to get better but not sure. I”m going to try it for a few more days and if I dont see a improvement I will take it back. Good luck to everyone.

Judy @ 6:33 pm

Try some hydrocortizone

Shelly @ 1:33 pm

I was wondering is anyone out there on Obagi C Rx system? How does that work, I ‘ve heard that system is less harsh on your skin, w/ less side effects.

Shelly @ 1:34 pm

I’ve also heard that AQuaphor is better on your skin than Vaseline.

Kate @ 3:29 am

So, I wrote my comment on my first week. This is my fourth week now and things have improved a lot. First of all I’m not wearing foundation at all as I don’t need it. :-) Just to say I wouldn’t leave the house without foundation before because my face looked pale, I had acne and brown spots. Now, I’m wearing a little powder so my face is not so shiny but that’s it. The first three weeks were not so bad although was a little bit difficult as I had to work. My face was peeling but mainly around my mouth and on my forehead. My lips were very dry so I’ve used three lipbalms in the last almost four weeks. The main problem was that my face was very very red. I’m wearing a little scarf everyday so the difference is not so obvious between my face colour and the rest of my body but still it was quite noticable. This week I’m not so red anymore. People keep asking me if I was on a holiday.:-)Colleagues and friends actually made comments about my skin and can see the difference which is great…

I just started Nu Derm Friday (3/19) night; 2 days later;feeling of tightness and some tingling on my face but no pain yet which I’m sure will change? I have hyper-pigmentation on my cheeks that I would love to see disappear or lighten up and can’t wait to see what Obagi will do.

Pat @ 8:11 am

Day 17 on Obaji Nu-Derm system. 56 years old, I have no acne but do have sun spots and ruddy discoloration on face. By day 3 of treatment my face was really, really red and peeling like crazy from my forehead to my neck. Very dry and tight with cracking around the corners of my mouth (just kept putting moisturizer on corners and it really helped). Like so many others, I thought of giving up as it looked so bad, but have continued on faithfully and will continue until treatment is complete. By day 7 the redness finally subsided as well as the extreme peeling. Now just a little redness (it comes and goes) and still peeling but in a much more manageable way. Today is the first day I have been able to wear foundation again without seeing all the flaking. So much more encouraged now! No major changes that I can see yet in the discoloration but the texture of my skin is pretty amazing. Very smooth and glowing. It’s the first time in years that my face looks good without makeup. Too many great reports on this product to give up, so just try and take it one day at a time. The worst will be over before you know it and then it will be just the excitement of watching the improvement each day.

Justina @ 1:18 pm

I have been on the Nu-Derm system for just over 3 weeks. I am 1/2 Filipino & 1/2 Mexican so I am not dark skinned but not fair. I would say a light olive. I am using 1, 2, 3, 4 & 6 in the morning and 1, 2, 5 & .025% tretinoin cream at night (every night & applied separately not blending the two together). So I still have peeling/cracking especially around my mouth area and I have a white ring around my lips as I have avoided trying to get any of the creams on my lips. I can tell it has lightened up some of my old acne scarring, but I just wish the peeling would stop or only do it at night! I am hoping that the peeling stops soon as I have a wedding I need to go to in a few weeks and I would hate to have gross scaling skin. I also have only had peeling around the mouth and on along my neckline and only a tad bit on my nose. Is that normal? I have used Philosophy’s microdelivery exfoliating wash in the shower on days I need to go somewhere but sure enough a few hours late my face begins to peel and it is so embarrassing. I wonder if it is ok to use a deeper scrub to take the dead skin off? Oh one word of advice is to really avoid the outer corners of your eyes, mouth and nose, the cracking hurts a lot. One thing I have found for my naturally chapped, dry lips that really seems to work is Aquaphor’s Healing Ointment. It seems weird that you would use this but it works. I haven’t tried it on my cracked corners only because I’m not sure how it will affect the Obagi creams. One thing is how has everyone avoided the burning at night from when your eyes tear? When I am falling asleep my eyes water a lot and then my face burns I think one it get in contact with the Retin-A. I do have another question…has anyone used the creams on their eyes? I only go as much as to my eyebrows since I had some scarring from trying to dig out little hairs with my tweezers and under my eyes. But my eye lids are discolored too especially since using Latisse but I am too scared that the creams will be too harsh on my eyes. Has anyone tried it? I will be taking some pictures of my face so I can do a comparison to really see any results. I hope that this really does work for me because I am so tired of always having to wear foundation to cover up my scarring, acne & uneven skin tone! If you have questions about my trip thru this system pls feel free to contact me. My email is justina1218 at aim dot com.

Justina @ 1:20 pm

Shelly, I use the Aquphor Healing Ointment on my lips for the chapping where previously only Vaseline seemed to help but Aquaphor works soooo much better I am glad I changed. So I am sure that it probably is better, but I’m not sure if it counteracts the effectiveness of the system?

ash @ 2:46 pm

been using obaji for acne scares for under 2 weeks now… Dispite the peeling the scare have reduced and pore are smaller. I wish i had done this earlier! I have suffered with scares and acne for ten years now. Word of advice…fight the acne from within in aswell as with obagi. I have gone on the pill to control the acne as its hormonial for me and now i see great results from obaji. The side effects are worth it. Be patient.

I know a few who have had the nu derm treatment and their results are very good…but they did not tell me. Funny! “great stuff should be shared”.

Hello Obagi users,

I am currently using the obagi nu-derm exfoderm forte in the morning and I was wondering if it’s ok to apply make-up on top of this? I’ve always wear make-up all my life so I can’t imagine leaving my house without any make-up.

This is my 7th weeks, I am using it regularly, I did peel, now I am stop peeling. The sad part is I have a Hyperpigmentation, it is not clear yet. I am hoping for the best result, but its already 7 weeks. I think my hyperpigmentation is deep. I am Indian, I am wondering does obaji product is for Indian skin as well ? I think my skin should clear by now.

I have several friends who have used this and suggestions if you are in public a lot)( are too slow the process down just a notch: Use the Cetaphil cream in the big round tub. A light layer before you treat (after washing skin and using toner). Wait about 10-15 minutes then use your products. Make certain you coat your lips with vaseline, especially the corners. While Obagi consultants will tell you to not use any moisturizer, I find that it helps me get through the program. My very good business partner has beautiful skin and has used Cetaphil in the areas that get very dry and start stinging and hurting too bad. Good Luck! I am in my 1st week so hopefully I can find the correct formula.

Kate @ 7:03 am

I’m on my 9th week with Obagi Nu-Derm. I’m very happy with the result however I have a little disappointment as well. I’m very happy because my skin is glowing, no acne, no pigmentation at all, nothing. I thought it was just for advertisement before that people would comment someone’s face once the result is visible but it’s actually true – my friends, colleagues keep commenting my skin, they say it’s beautiful, looks fresh, glowing. One of the girls even wants to start the same treatment because she saw the result on my skin. So it’s great.:-) My disappointment is that this is my 9th week and the redness hasn’t gone 100% yet. I look like I have a nice tan and people actually think I was on the sun because of the weather but in the meantime I’m not really tanned so they can see the difference. There is also still slight peeling around my mouth. Nothing serious compare to the first few weeks but still not 100%. But I’m patient. I don’t need to wear foundation at all. I wear a little powder because my skin is still a little bit shiny because of the creams but that’s all. I’m actually curious if all the side effects will go completely by the end of the 12th week. But all together I haven’t regretted for a second that I started it and I look forward to a summer when the foundation doesn’t melt on my face in the hot weather.:-)

hi. i’m 18 years old and i’m using obagi almost 2 1/2 weeks now. my problem is acne scars all over my cheeks. There’s some peeling but not too much. I noticed i’m getting more breakouts and i haven’t noticed some clearing of my acne scars. Is it really suppose to be like this? Do you think it would be gone after 6 weeks of use? I want to get some opinions from those who have been using it. Thank you!

April 29, 2010

Teresa @ 3:49 am

Kate – I am experiencing the same thing as you described. I am at 11 weeks now on the Nu-derm system and still get redness and some peeling around my mouth. It seems to worsen when I use the blender and trentinoin, but I only use it every other night. Otherwise, my skin looks amazing. I am wondering if trentinoin is too strong for my skin to tolerate as I am on the strongest strength. I also will still flake lightly all over my face when I use it.

Pat @ 7:04 am

Week 8

Skin softer than ever – still have ruddiness of skin but seems to now be fading. Still flaking :-( mainly on chin and neck. Started using Obaji eye cream around week 4 and it really made a difference. Eyes much softer now and no peeling. Learned the hard way to really keep the Clear, Blender and Trentinoin away from eye area and around corners of mouth. Really cracks and dries them. Eye cream is a must!
I’m continuing with full cycle (18 weeks), every day, full routine. Hoping the peeling fully goes away soon, it’s the only negative.

Maureen @ 6:33 pm

Hello–
I am on day 9 and ouch…but I will be patient and promise to do this…I am committed. I have a question…tonight I decided to take a break! First, is that ok? Second, I put aquaphor all over my face because it feels so good..do you think this is ok? Just for one night?!
thx…Maureen

I wanted to leave a post of encouragement for all those doing the nu-derm system. i started a week ago and was REALLY apprehensive after reading everyone’s posts but so far, its not as tough as i imagined. i have peeled quite a bit (and at one stage my under eyes were so dry it made me look about 50 and i don’t even have wrinkles generally – but this cracked and peeled to my utter relief after 5 days!). i find that i look the worst in the morning and in a hot shower, the excess skin comes off. i have learnt from a couple of mistakes so here are some tips. DONT touch dry skin in the evening i.e. scrub it off with hands in hot shower as all that will do is give you sores! it happened on my chin and cheek and i have since learnt my lesson. it will all come off naturally in the morning. also with the tret and blender i would recommend just using less around the chin and mouth area. dab all over face and rub in excess in your chin as that way it wont get so sensitive. i burnt here too but now i have stopped using for a few days and will resume minimally. but the main thing is that i have to say, what an amazing product and its only been a week. i tried EVERYTHING from peels to laser to other creams to get rid of sun damage and already within ONE week i can see an improvement in my overall skin tone and the fading of the sun damage. Obagi takes a while to get used to but you should know your skin and face and how much to push it or not. my skin welcomes the product in the morning and my skin already looks brighter and i am lucky in that the redness and tightness is already minimal as my skin has adapted quickly. i am still peeling but it tolerable. so keep it up – i never expected such amazing results in such little time. i cant wait until i have done the first 3 months. will post updates.

jess @ 6:26 pm

Upon visiting a new skin spa in Lexington, KY I was advised that Obagi was the most comprehensive skin program to eradicate melasma and subsequent skin damage. It has been day 8 and my skin is burning and red!!! One year ago I had a tcl peel(very invasive for olive skinned people–and painful) so I am not completely tramautized by the discomfort but am aprehensive. In the last couple of days it has been pretty apparent a ‘transformation’ is occuring–my son asked me at breakfast why I put too much pink make-up on! I have read countless objective testimonials regarding Obagi and am hopeful that my results will be as positive as others who have went through the same ‘ugly ducking’ phase. BTW: 37, Native American Indian decent, no blemishes, just sun damage

Nancy @ 8:12 pm

I started using the Obaji Nu-Derm System on April 1 so I’ve been on it for one month now. My doc is recommending 4 months. I’ve had lots of itchy, peeling, scaling, beet-red, tight, tough-feeling skin that started a couple days after beginning the system. Frankly, I’m enjoying all this peeling–day after day I see clearer, brighter, healthier looking skin revealed. It was shocking at first–I’ve never used a product that caused such an immediate impact. I’ve found that if I have a social occasion where I want to look my best, I can stop using the Nu-Derm System the day before and much of the redness and peeling calms down considerably. After four weeks I don’t have all that crazy peeling around my mouth anymore but my face still looks sunburned most of the time. Positive effects I am noticing include lightened brown spots, more even skin tone, smaller pores, and a healthy “dewey” quality is replacing the dry, crinkly, wrinkly skin I experienced those first few weeks(I’m 54). I’m committed to this system for the next three months (have you SEEN those “before” and “after” pictures!?)and I suspect I’ll continue to have reddened skin for the duration. After that I’ll change to a more gentle maintenance program and finally be able to fully appreciate the change my skin has gone through during the 4 month treatment period. My doc says if I continue to “shun the midday sun” and protect my face with sunscreen and hats I shouldn’t see a return of brown spots. I’m not going to suffer these months and then make the same sun mistakes again!

Nancy @ 8:38 pm

My skin was very dry and peeling for the first three weeks or so on the Obaji Nu-Derm System. It would appear so wrinkly in the morning, I started to wonder what I had gotten myself into (I’m 54). But after viewing the many “before” and “after” pictures and reading people’s comments I resolved to stick it out. After four weeks of using the Nu-Derm System I’m seeing a distinct improvement in the texture and appearance of my skin. I’ve read others’ concerns over the occurrence of MORE wrinkles after beginning the system but my experience is that this side effect is short lived. The peeling away of old skin layers will reveal softer, smoother, younger looking skin in just a few more weeks.

Vera @ 7:27 am

Hi! I am 33 and recently discovered some melasma spots on cheeks and forhead.
I’ve just bought nuderm 3 and tretioin 0.05% cream from a dermotologist.
He mentioned i might experience some redness and flaking but i had no idea it would
be as bad as decribed in this forum. I am a professional model so i need to reconsider when
to start this process. If i decide to start with just the forehead as my hair covers that area,..
Will the colour of the skin be different after a few weeks? The idea is to target just the pigmentation spots.
I’m too scared to cover the whole face with this product now,.i have photo shoots lined up!
Thanks!

Alice @ 11:21 am

I started using the system in February and am on it off and on. I go off it when the peeling and the blotchiness gets too noticeable. Then I go back on until it is time to go off again. I probably will never get to the point where my skin gets used to it and the peeling and redness stops. But I will continue the system until I use it up and then will decide whether to buy more. Two questions – if I continue what I am doing (on and off) will new, fresh skin ever appear? And if I go off for good will my red skin blotches ever go away?

To all,

Back in Sept i started my Obagi nu derm skin care, and at first i was so scared and just wondering if i will experience all the peeling and redness. i was so ugly for 4 weeks and i had so many pimples on my forehead and side of my face. good thing i did not stop i was about to, since this website really help me to go through this trials…im so glad i went forward and now it’s been more than 6 months my face is so clear and look younger, a lot of people notice my face and i never had a very clear face in my life like now i really like the result. i will recommend to everybody…….just hang in there!

14th week. I have seen little result. I upped the tretinoin to 0.1 about two months ago. Still no peeling or flaking, minimal redness, although I am religiously using the full treatment. I have a few age spots that may be a tiny bit lighter, but not noticeably lighter. My skin feels tight and dry as if I hadn’t rinsed the soap off completely. And it’s a little shiny only because the treatment is shiny. Obagi is so pricey that I am quite disheartened. Obagi itself takes no responsibility for the efficacy of its product; that lies solely with the Obagi practitioner from whom I purchased it. Since Obagi will not reimburse her, I’m sure she’s not likely to reimburse me. If Obagi begins to work as it claims, I’ll let you know.

I’ve completed my second full week yesterday and along with the peeling, flaking and itchness, I’m now experiencing some light spots on my chin and cheek area. Just started the system. I am at day 3 and am having peeling on my nose and on top lip so far. I find it very painful for about 10 mins after applying the creams but then it settles this is the worst part so far. My skin feels softer too which is nice. I found that having a bath helped to soften the dead skin and allows more to come off the face rather than just washing the face.

i started the obagi system 2 days ago, so far iv only experienced a little bit of red on my face. yesterday i did start to feel a bit dizzy and had a headache but not sure if it has anything to do with the product. i really hope this works for me. i havent got bad acne but use to get a lot of spots in my teens and still get a few but not bad ones. im 30 and the past year iv noticed iv got a dark patch on my upper lip that looks like a mustache. as iv always used a facewash for acne since my early teens my face has become dry with a few lines on my cheeks. iv always had a complex about my skin on my face an wear my hair covering my cheeks so i really hope this works for me. i will let u know how i get on.

Hi all,
The BIG qestion is, are the great resutls for this system premenant?

June 20, 2010

Debbie @ 4:28 am

Am now on week 7 and I have to say my skin is looking 100% better. I did however, suffer the redness and the peeling. In fact people actually asked me what was wrong as it was so bad!!!!!
I did hit a problem, on week 4-5, I broke out in terible acne! I had very little skin on my face, that wasnt becoming pustular in appearance and the itchiness increased. I and my dermatologist thought I had an allergic reaction and stopped the tretanin, blender and began taking anti histamines. I lowered the tretanin to 0.5% and the redness began to fade and the acne decreased, although I am prone to the odd patch. I have never suffered from acne in my life. I did find the initial 6 weeks tough going, but Im determined to continue.
I think I actually was using too much product and since I have been more frugal with it, I have coped better!!!!!
Has anybody else, had the acne break out? If you read the laflet that comes with the tretanin, it actually states its possible in a few, well I was sure one of those few!!!!!

So, this is my 18th week which is supposed to be the last week however my doctor said I can carry on using the products. As I mentioned before I’m very happy with the result. I showed a “before” photo to one of my friends the other day as she didn’t want to believe my skin actually looked awful. Now she understands why I did the whole thing.:-) My skin is nice but I’m still not 100% happy. The reason is that I’m still not back to my original colour but still has some redness which looks more than a nice tan. My skin is glowing. I sometimes have little spots but nothing major that would bother. I sometimes still wear powder as my face is a little bit shiny from the creams. My other problem is that the area around my mouth still gets dry and sometimes peels slightly. I have now reduced the tretanin/blender around this area as I think that’s the main reason. All together I’m very satisfied. I agree that you need to hang in there as the end result is beautiful!:-)

Please help, I’m thinking of starting the nu-derm system for age spots and sun damage discoloration on my cheeks. I don’t understand why you apply clear#3 to your entire face. I just what to lighten up my dark areas not my entire face. Does anyone know if the product just targets over pigmentation or all pigmentation?

Hi kathleen.

I went through the same problem, with enlarged pores and oily skin. i aslo had unexpected breakouts. iv spent thousands on products and treatments but there was no long term cre. Im 25, im on the 12th week of the system and i must say that this is the first product to actually show signs of improvement. You have to give it about 20 weeks to see the difference, but if you stay with the regime then you will definatly see improvements. the first month is horrid, if youve suffered from acne it is very likey they will all be pushed up to the service, as well as peeling and redness. After this period your skin will start getting used to the products. my acne has completely gone, i did suffer from uneven skin tone with darker patches by my cheeks. now im on the 12th week i can see the new skin coming through and gradually fading the marks. i never was able to put suncream on as i always used to get a breakout but now my skin has gotton used to it and tehre are no side affects.
My main advise is to stick through it, it can be really tough in the early stages but if you hang in there you will see the benefits. Make sure you stick with the whole routine and dont miss steps otherwise this will just delay the teatment.

Rose Advent @ 8:54 am

I am on day 4 of the system. I am breaking out and red but no peeling at this point. My doctor prescribed a different tretinoin than the one in the kit. I am only supposed to use it twice a week for the 1st two before going to every other day. Should I scrub my skin when I use the cleanser? I don’t know how agressive I need to be about getting the dead skin off since I am not peeling as yet.

This is day 3 for me. It just feels a little flushed and warm like I got a little too much sun. I’m 30 and I would like to see a decrease in the fine lines underneath my eyes. Many people have asked about whether or not this contributes to more wrinkling around the delicate skin around the eyes… Does it eventually peel, then look better with decreased wrinkles, or is this skin too delicate for these creams. Not many people are commenting on this question.

Stick with it application around the eyes and they’ll look better after time OR keep products away from eyes??? Which is it? Please help ; )

Does anyone know what the difference is between Obagi Nu-Derm system and the Obagi Nu-Derm Condition & Enhance system? I am using the Obagi Nu-Derm Condition & Enhance products, but really don’t see a difference in ingredients. Am I missing something?

I.Figueora @ 12:33 pm

Hi Obagi Usuers,
Today I am on my 6 day of using these products and just like everybody else I also experience redness, thightness in some areas of my face particularly around my eyes and mounth and a lot of peeling all over my face. nevertheless, just like everybody else I want to continue using this product so, so this is how I am coping with some of the symptoms so far. For the itching I take benadryl by mouth, of course this is something that needs to be discuss with your doctor first. (some people are taking other medication and taking benadryl can cause other side affects). For my lips I use Lip Balm Medicated because it will have all the ingredients necesary like: menthol, aloe, vitamin e, petrolatum and analgesic to releif some of the pain around your lips. For my eyes, I use a lot of moisturizer, I prefer clinique (but those that sold Obagi products to you also have thier own Obagi moisturizer),this will keep your eyes softer looking and more radiant even when the rest of the skin is peeling. I am not denying that it is a very strong product, but I have to admit that my face even on my 6 day is already looking more clear and the sun spot are already looking very light as we speak. Considering the fact that I am almost 39 years old and a Puertorican who never believe in suntan lotion until I started getting my sun spots on my face a year ago. Well I will like to see how my face will look after the 6 weeks can’t wait. I will try to report every two weeks. See Ya!!!!

Hello Obaji Users,
I just read this entire post and just wanted to inform some of you that you may not be using this system properly which may be resulting in some of the negative side effects (blisters, worstening eye wrinkles, etc). I do understand that everyone may react differently due to their level of skin sensitivity, but some might be avoidable. So as an FYI, I have researched this product quite a bit and wanted to suggest going to the official Obaji website and reading the physician protocol for use yourself. I found that there is 2 basic protocols for use, the 1st is the normal skin protocol and the 2nd is geared for problematic acne skin. It does say that your physician can tailor this for your specific needs, but it may be safest to follow the maker’s directions in my opinion due to the fact that physician’s are not always telling you what may be best and safest. The first protocol says use step 1, 2, 3, 4, (skip 5 all together, choosing which cleanser and exfoderme) and 6 in the am and only use 1, 2, and 3 in the pm (skipping 4 all together). The second protocol is use step 1, 2, 3, (skipping 4 all together), and 5 mixing that with the tretinoin. Pay attention to the bottles as they will highlight which ones to use in the am or pm. Also noted it says NOT to use the Clear step 3 on the eyes and to avoid putting step 4 Exfoderme/Forte on the eyelids (so after reading that I would avoid putting 3 and 4 on top and bottom eyelids period). For those that want to treat the undereye wrinkles I would use the nu-derm eye cream for this after applying everything else to the entire face, only putting this eye treatment on such a delicate area which has retinol to smooth wrinkles!!! It makes sense to me and I also use the nu-derm Action moisterizer to help with the dryness/flaking after every application of my regimen and as needed throughout the day. The Aquafor doesn’t sound like a bad idea either because I’ve heard it is water-based, unlike Vasaline. Anyway, I have been using Obaji nu-derm for about 3 weeks and have experienced the very red/tight sunburn-like effects along with a tingling and burning sensation and moderate peeling, much like everyone else which I believe to be normal. Nothing I can’t handle, just a little embarrassing. To me the effects are just letting me know that it is working to regenerate new skin. Well I hope maybe this helps some of you and go to the Obaji site to read more about this system and their other products including the physician’s protocol for use (you never can be too trustworthy of your doctor’s advise). Good luck to all!!

I am starting my 4th week on obagi. I have noticed that my skin is dry and very rough. I’m not peeling at all nor is my skin very red. It hasn’t seemed to help my acne at all, it isn’t worse but it isn’t better either. I am not using retin A with the system, I go in next week for a follow up to see if he will add it. I’m thinking I will need it to get rid of the acne. I have noticed that my pores on my nose are much smaller and my blackheads are disappearing. I haven’t seen any lightening of my acne scars yet either.

I started this product in July and used it for a month and am devastated with the results. I hads lots of freckles before which have totally gone…but now I realise that my freckles were pretty and I really want them back. My skin appears a very uneven tone now…I am very pale around my nose which is where I peeled the most. Unfortunately, my cosmetic nurse advised me to use all the products under my eyes, including the exfoderm, and I feel that I now have really dark circles under my eyes and the skin has thinned. Can anybody reassure me that my skin will go back to it’s normal state now that I have stopped using the products? Will my freckles return, even without exposing my skin to the sun? And will my eyes recover? Please help…Obagi has ruined my skin as far as I am concerned.

Hi everybody, this is my 5th day using this product, and I’m not peeling nor my skin is red, nor itching but what is really bothering me, way too much is the oily face, my face used to be oily before, but after using Obagi, it got really bad, I feel disgusted when I wake up in the mornings my skin is way too oily, I don’t even want my husband to look at me, I run to wash my face, this feeling is bothering way too much, does anybody else feel the same way??? I kind of want to keep with the product because I haven’t seen any results and is way too expensive, but I don’t know how much I can take :(

I am 47 and on the 7th week obagi nu derm, in addition, elastiderm eye cream and retina a the lowest dose. Your post included your problem with acne. Blackheads and acne have invaded my face. Has your acne cleared? I’ve read that hydrocortizone rubbed on after all obagi products helps. Have you tried this? My husband thinks i’ve made a mistake in buying obagi. I have not worn foundation since i started due to the peeling. I’m thinking of seeing my doctor next week and asking her advice and maybe asking for a facial to extract my pores. this site has given me hope to keep going. thanks

Today is my first day on the Nu Derm system. I have a few breakouts here and there but my main issue is stubborn hyperpigmentation. I know theres a rough patch when you start this system but i’m prepared to tough it out. I’m using a different type of retin a than the one the comes with the system. I applied that lastnight and this morning my skin feels baby soft and super smooth. I know it’s only my first day but i’m hoping i’ll be one of the lucky ones and not get too much irritation. I’ll be updating from time to time

funny you have said that i used the treatment for 8weeks and had to stop as it realy dry skin my pores were worse had broken red and broken capilerys my skin did not look glowing just dull and damaged looking it has taken 3 months for my skin to get back to normal but still looks worse than befor dont know what went wrong because the doctor would not admit there was a problem.

Karen @ 5:31 am

I am an African American with lighter skin tone, but not extremely light, I went through three rounds of this product with no results, the first two or three week I was very excited because I had the peeling on the nose, around the mouth and high on the cheek bones. But the peeling never occured on my problem areas dark circle under the eyes sun damage between the brow and cheeks. This product didn’t lighten these dark patches at all, I should have stopped after the first treatment. So after 1100.00 I’m still using a concealer and makeup to hide the dark spot.

September 15, 2010

Tara @ 12:05 pm

You really need to use the Rein A. Also there are differnt strengths of Retin A. With the .05 I barely peeled. Using the .1, I peel a lot. I do Obagi about twice a year (for 3 years now). Several of my friends got it after seeing the results. I love this product! It is embarassing the first two weeks of peeling. Just suck it up it is worth it!

September 16, 2010

Grey @ 12:17 pm

I just started the Obagi Nu Derm system. Dealing with adult acne is insanely discouraging and in the past I have always felt an immediate response to products I was prescribed by a Dermatologist; so far my skin feels nice. I haven’t used it long but I will update my experience with the product line as my treatment progresses. I have very oily skin; I am not sure if that alters the experience each of us may or may not have with the product. What I do know is I have been experimented on with every product on the market, but a montly peel really solved my acne issues. I have high hopes for Obagi. It’s one of the few products that has not caused worsening outbreaks, but rather was a great product line that I was introduced to by a Dermatologist in California.

September 26, 2010

natalie @ 3:24 pm

I am 29 and have had mild acne since I was 18 years old, I still get breakouts which leave dark scars. I have been using the obagi Nu durm for 4 weeks. I have very sensitive skin and by week three had had enough and wanted to stop using it. My face was very red and I had to miss a couple of nights here and there of the tretnion as my face was hurting. I am in week four now and I can see a big improvement in my acne which I just could not get rid of before. I can stick to the programme without having to miss out any treatments now and my skin is getting used to it. I am still peeling and my face goes red even if I get a little bit hot which is embarrassing but because I can see it working I am willing to put up with that. Obagi is not for the faint hearted but it is not as bad as having a peel and I would recommend it. But… you HAVE TO stick with it even when you get scared and sick of your face feeling horrible. If it gets too much just go easy and use half the amount you should, cut out the tretnion and the exfoderm if necessary but remember these are the products that make the system work and allow you to achieve the great results! so my advise would be, just count down the first weeks and except you will look like a monster. I can already see my scars are better but I have a way to go before they are gone so roll on the 12 week mark! Good luck ladies…

I’m on my first week of obagi treatment. And I can say that it’s really working for me. My main concern are my blemishes, and after just a week of using it i can see amazing results. Though I have slight peeling almost unnoticeable.Obagi NUDERM is a prescription treatment because the amount you put on your face varies from different skin types. You must strictly follow your dermatologist prescription or else you will experience severe peeling, redness, and itching. Strictly follow the amount prescribed on your face because too much of it is not good. And never use Obagi without a consultation coz the routine may differ depending on your concern and skin type.

October 14, 2010

Trisha @ 6:48 pm

I have used Obagi two seperate times and both amazingly resurfaced my skin and faded my intense hyperpigmentation. But soon after discontinuing using it …. all the hyperpigmentation came back. Also, a word of caution… don’t get electrolysis while using Obagi. Stop it for about 10 days before you go. Hydoquinone makes the skin thin and very sensitive and therefore the electroylsis damaged my skin.

I am a white 30 year old femail who has been using obagi now for 12 days and following these posts closely. I started the program because I have severe melasma on my forehead and cheeks. I have tried hydroquinine and kojic acid as well as chemial peels which have made no difference. I was worried to start the obagi nu derm line because of all the chemicals and how harsh it was on your skin. Usually, I am more of the organic natural products type person. The first week I used my regular moisturizing lotion becasue I was worried about the drying effects. My dermatologist said that using a moisturizer was just fine with the line and did not diminish the effects. However, after reading these posts I was worried that I was diminishing the effects. So, I stopped using the moisturizer and the effects started immedietly. I became extreamy raw and red around the mouth with incredible peeling. I did make sure not to apply any of th eproducts around the eyes or close to the mouth which was advised to me by my dermatologist and has made a world of dirrenece. No blistering or wrinkling around the mouth. I did use all the products recommended on the site with nothing calming the burning and itching sensation and found a miracle lotion!!! LANSINOH!!!! It is for nursing moms with chapped skin and is natural laninol. So cooling and calming-absolutely amazing. I also stopped putting the products on the bottom of my face with the extreme effects. I dont even have problems down there!! Things have improved now. But I will keep you guys posted. Thanks for all the posts and advice!!

katie @ 6:49 am

I would keep all products away from your eyes. My dermatologist recommeneded it and I am glad to have followed. That area is so delicate your dont want to do it any permanent harm.

I am a male aged 42 and went for laser hair removal on my chest and stomach, as I had lots of dark coarse hair(I am Asian origin) olive/medium skin
2 weeks after I got allot of acne breakouts and acne scars especially around my stomach(in my younger years I was acne prone).
I am using Obagi Nu derm blender and Obagi Tretionon 0.1% mixed together on a daily basis.. Very expensive due to a larger area to cover(chest and stomach), but going on a beach holiday in 7 weeks so I need the pigmentation and acne to clear up. Will I get results by 7 weeks?

Heard about the side effects but as it’s my chest and stomach then maybe I can bear with it. Am on Day 1 so let’s see what happens.

Has anyone else used these products on other parts of the body instead of the face? If yes, does it have the same effect?
Thanks.

Hi, my name is Laura I;ve started the Obagi treatment about 7- 8 weeks ago, in the first 4 weeks I almost didn’t notice anything.. and then in week 5 I started to get out breaks, I still have outbreaks now especially on the sides from my mouth.. But the outbreaks turn into crusts ( I dont know if this is the right word, but I hope you understand what I mean) So now I’m scared that the treatment won’t help and will give me acne scars.. My dermatologist tells me it’s normal to develop some crusts and that I should just try to hang in there.. Can somebody please tell me that it will be allright if I hust keep using the product.. Good luck to everybody!

I too have just recently started the Nu Derm system about a week ago. I have had very little peeling but quite a bit of redness. I think this is just the way our skin is reacting to the product. I am hopeful that as the weeks go on it will calm down. I have been using mineral make-up to help. I hope this helps, and hang in there!

I’m seriously considering starting Obaji. Have read about it for months. Really nervous about the side effects as I work in a busy cardiology office and am face to face with about 30+ patients daily. I’m very self conscious of my skin. Mainly my hyper pigmentation and also I still have acne flare ups. Took Accutane about 1 1/2 years ago. It worked great and I was hardly ever oily afterwards. But for the past 3 months my oilyness has returned as well as the breakouts.
My main question is can you wear make up for the first few weeks? I cannot imagine facing my patients if I have to go totally makeup free?

November 22, 2010

Fatih @ 3:59 pm

I have bad hyper-pigmentation on my checks. I done everything I can to get rid of it. After so long of crying about my face my boyfriend took me to a cosmetic surgeon he recommended me to try Obaji for 6 weeks. So am on week 3 today and I have the peeling, redness and the itching. But I have notice my face getting better. I have stayed away from makeup until this treatment is over. the only thing I have to say is that you need to stick with this product and wait until your cycle is over then you will know if its for you. I admit I don’t like all the effects of the products but I know as soon as am done my face will look way better than before. So for you out there don’t give up until its done and you will like the results!

This is my 5th weeks going on to my 6th weeks using obagi. Just like everyone else I have been experiencing a lot of redness, pealing and wrinkly. I have two dark spots on my both side of my cheeks that people called pregancy mask and minor break out around my chin. After using the obagi for the first 3 weeks i’ve noticed that the dark spot on my left cheek started fading. The pimples around my chin started dried up. Now I finally have hope that the obagi product it very working for me. However, for the passed 4-5 days my face been so dry and painful. Most importanly, I started break out again around my chin and around my forehead. I been reading everyone comments and nobody seems to experience this problem beside redness, pealing and pain. I am so worry, should I give up and stop using the obagi or should I continue for 18 weeks. Can someone please give me some advices. Thank you!

Hello, I am a 35 year old black woman who has used Obagi for over a year. I’m sooooooooo……glad I did. it has change my life and my skin. I decided on obagi after having problems with acne scarring and hyperpigmentation. I initialy purchased the trial kit and began to see complete results within 6 weeks. These results progressed as I continued this journey and I was excited. Some peeling noted and some minor burning but not unbearable. I kept hearing the esthetician voice playing over and over in my head. She kept telling me through the initial consultation to get through the first 6 weeks, i’ll be glad I did. Thank you !!! I noticed when I ran out of the products, the hyperpigmentation began to return, I called the store and found out what it would take to retain the results and got right back on it. It made sense to maintain the results as the time and money spent was plenty. I get compliments on my skin all the time. I am an obagi lifer!!!!

jennifer @ 12:39 pm

I also did not go through any of the peeling and have finished all the products and I am thoroughly pleased. I saw a firmness in all my facial area, as well as a brightness. Though I have stopped cause Christmas is coming and this product is pricey, I will see about continuing come January. My major question is how long will these results last if I chose not to return. So far, I’ve not seen a question or response to that one yet. Please inform

Alexandra @ 6:11 pm

I too, am African American and have two prominent face colors. At first it wasn’t as noticeable when I put on my face powder, but today, even with concealer, the lighter spots were shining through. I asked about it two weeks ago and they said, “That’s normal while your skin is peeling, but the catch is, my skin is NOT peeling. By deductive reasoning, then this is not normal. I am only going to use the wash, toner and exfoliator for a while. I can’t do the blender and clear, because I know that’s what’s bleaching my skin and that is not what I wanted. So please tell me if your skin returned to it’s normal state (color). Thanks.

I have been using the Obagi Nu-Derm system all over my face avoiding the upper eyelids and cracks of my mouth. I realize that the flaking and the bad general texture of my skin is normal. The only problem is that my lower eyelids seem tight and dry and I’ve actually developed more lines and wrinkles. Is this normal? Is it just part of the ugly phase? I feel as though I’m making the area under my eyes worse. Should I stop using the products or certain product on my eyes. Is there a chance I am using something incorrectly? I tend to sleep on my side or face naturally. This is my 5th day.. Thanks

Your comments have helped me greatly. I started Nu-Derm Monday and peeled immediately with burning and reddness on Tuesday. I am sitting at my computer, burning, with a fan blowing on my face. I know the old saying – No pain, no gain, but this is ridiculous. How long will the burning continue? I can take everything else, but the burning is very painful and I am a tough Southern lady from Mississippi.

Thanks,

I just started today which is 12/24/10 on a Friday. I just found out that I’m going to be at the Bahamas from Jan. 1st until the 8th. Should I continue using Obagi Nu Derm or should I stop before my face starts peeling like a zombie on my paradise week vacation? Or continue using it? I’m just concerned. Any advice?

mary @ 10:30 pm

Kim Diaz!

I noticed that you started on 7/31/10. how is your face reacting? Let me know. Thanks!

Rachel @ 9:11 am

Hi all
I bought the Obagi Nu Derm starter set for normal/dry skin, with 2 tubes of tretinoin cream 0.1% and an extra bottle of Clear. I also bought a bottle of vitamin C liquid to help with the redness.

I used the whole thing, following instructions and on the third day I got the redness, itchiness and intense peeling around my chin, mouth and edges of my nose. I continued for another day and it got worse with weeping sores around one corner of my mouth and on my chin. The rest of my face seemed fine then. So after the fourth day I stopped using the exfoderm and tretoin plus blender around my chin and mouth. This is the sixth day and my chin etc is starting to calm down A LITTLE BIT but it’s still really flaky and itchy, tight and red and weeping sores are still there. I started noticing peeling around my nose and between my eyebrows on the fifth day (like a suntan peeling off) and redness in the rest of my face only occurs in the afternoon. I would really like to know if anyone has experienced the same as me and if so, what was it like for you? I’m going to have to stay at home until the crazy mouth and chin thing eases up or maybe longer if the rest of my face joins in. From what I’ve read, it should last about 2-3 weeks. If only it was acceptable to wear a paper bag over my face when I go out. How long must I be a hermit?! Please, please, any advice welcome!

Rachel @ 9:14 am

oh, and by the way, its really hard not to paw at my face and peel of the skin – am I causing damage? its sooooooooo itchy!

Mint @ 6:41 pm

Hi,
I just started the nuderm system for normal to oily skin. Since the blender needs to be mixed with the tretinoin ive read that a tretinoin creme is better than the gel. The creme base has a pore clogging ingredient in it. Is it okay to use retin-a micro instead? The micro gel is suppose to be better and less harsh.

Thanks!

Mint

Leanne @ 8:00 am

I have been using the product for 3 weeks now and I have broken out with acne on my forehead, chin and cheeks is this normal? I have noticed that my pigmentation has lightened up alot and I am happy about that but breaking out at 36 years old with large acne pimples is not what I expected, does anyone know if this is part of the process?

Talee @ 9:27 am

What happened to your skin after you went back to see the doctor?

January 19, 2011

jeanie @ 8:43 am

I just started using this system for acne and acne scarring. i have lots of dark spots and suffered from acne for over a decade. i’m 39 years old and tried just about everything. i’m noticing an inprovement in just 4 days! my skin is red, dry, and peeling, but not too bad. i do get headaches at night from the tretonin, but i’m going to push through. i know i’m on my way to beautiful skin!

MARIA @ 11:07 pm

any response to the appearance of more wrinkles? been on obagi for a week now, and have experienced tightness, peeling and a little soreness, but manageable. however, the wrinkles is very alarming.

January 26, 2011

Payton @ 6:58 pm

I’, in week three (also African American–dark skin–hyperpigmentation). Let me know what finally happened with you.

January 28, 2011

joanna @ 6:35 am

Please, please, stop using any product with hydrocortisone! This substance is a steroid cream this means that prolonged use will thin your skin at the very least.

If you have problem skin then state at the root cause. Ask yourself three questions, first, when was the last time you remember having the skin you loved? Second when did it change? Third what were you doing or what did you stop doing?
Often the cause of problem skin is emotional or diet or both.

I had beautiful skin until I got married. Then my skin took on the cast associated with the mask of pregnancy…only I wasn’t pregnant! Weaves, wigs greasy, course or dry hair on the face can cause an allergic reaction. Scratching, even mild… will infect the area.

Don’t be fooled by adverts or promises of instant treatments. You may not have realized it but you didn’t get bad skin overnight, so clearing it won’t happen overnight either.

First, start with a good diet, less fat more fruit. Cleanse with a light natural cleanser, like chamomile or seaweed. Splash off with cold water or tone with an alcohol free toner finally, moisturize with light natural day cream.

Keep doing this along with breathing and stretching exercises and you will see remarkable results. Plus it’s very inexpensive! Good luck, Joanna

HEllo,

I was reading the Obagi forum & came accross your message. Did you ever receive overall good results with the Obagi system? I tried it a few ago & had some side effects that I did not like…..But for some reason I decided to start it again. I have some discoloration that I am not happy with. Any advice?

Thanks,

Dania

Dania Sparks @ 8:41 pm

Are there any African Americans who has received good effect results from using the Obagi system? I started using it & it is causing discloration: lighter around the lip & chin areas. I do not want to look like Michael Jackson………Help! My skin was not even that bad before this. I regret starting this. Any suggestions?

Thx,

Dania

I’m on my second week already but has not experienced any peeling or redness. I have blisters all over my face though, with occasional itching and pain. The whole day today, my left eye kept twiching uncontrollably. Could this part of the adverse side effects of using Obagi?

What I dont understand also is why my skin has not been peeling off at all. Please help!!!

Pat @ 7:30 am

This is for Kate or anyone else who successfully made it through. I am on day 11 and at times just want to throw in the towel. Most of the time my face is burning bright red; it naturally is worse while I am at work. I see a difference some days and feel hopeful. Then its peely, raw and red and I get discouraged. I follow AM and PM steps every single day and night. my question is, in the morning, do you put any moistureizer on at all? If so, what kind is safe to use? thanks fo any responses.

Roseann Harris @ 6:14 pm

I just started the Obagi treatment today, I’m a bit worried about the people who say that eye wrinkles get worse! I hope that is only temporary! I have acne scarring and I have had dermabrasion, a year ago, with very disappointing results. Now I intend to use the very expensive ($500)obagi program for one month and then have laser resurfacing done. I’m really hoping that all the money I spent on this system will be worth it!

I have used Obagi for 11 years. The results are amazing. The first few weeks were painful and no fun. I preservered and it was well worth it!! I have beautiful glowing skin. I use it faithfully 2x times per day. The toner does its job on the pores!

So who knows if I will be peeling in 2-3 days or not at all ?? So scared. I paid alot of $$ money today for these products. I am a nurse and work in the public. Hoping this product will not make me freakish looking in the next 12 weeks !! Reading all the comments help. Just wish u were with me at work doing it along with me lol !!! Keep ya posted. FYI : started Obagi mainly for cystic acne, acne scarring and hyperpigmentation and I am 33 years old !

Kathi @ 12:55 pm

HI ALL,
I AM IN MY 7TH WEEK OF OBAGI. LIKE YOU ALL, I EXPERIENCED TEH PEELING, THE DRYNESS AROUND THE MOUTH, ETC, THE BURNING, THE TIGHTNESS – BUT I DID BEGIN TO NOTICE MY FACE LOOKING SMOOTHER ALSO. MY HUBBY EVEN NOTICED. NOW….IN MY 7TH WEEK, I HAVE A RASH ON CHIN LINE GOING UP MY CHEEK. IT ITCHES LIKE CRAZY. EVERY MORNING I WAKE UP, I ITCH. I AM HOPING THIS IS THE OBAGI WORKING ITS MIRACLE. BY THE WAY, I HAVE A COUPLE SMALL AGE SPOTS BUT HAVENT SEEN THEM DISAPPEAR YET. MY DOC SAID NOT TO USE THE MORE ABRASIVE CREAMS ON ANY BONEY AREA. I GUESS IF ITS A LITTLE UNCOMFORTABLE THAT MEANS ITS WORKING.
LET ME KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS.
KATHI

Kathy @ 2:42 pm

It’s been a week and no sign of peeling!!!!! I have all 6 of the obagi nuderm + the action…only thing I didn’t get was the tretonion…purchased some drugstore retin A instead….is that the reason I’m having no results. Only dryness and a bit of redness!

March 31, 2011

Janel @ 7:28 am

I’ve been on Obagi for 6 years (I’m 24), and I always get compliments on my skin! I use it religiously, as does my mom & aunt, and they both too have great skin!

My skin before was dull, sun damaged (I was a lifeguard in HS), and dry. I would literally soak my face in Clinique moisturizer during the winter.

The cleanser is very gentle, and I no longer need moisturizer. In fact, I didn’t even wear powder/foundation to work yesterday. I do use Smashbox primer. I went through those horrible 4 weeks of peeling, but it was surely worth it! My husband actually uses Obagi now, and his skin has never been better! It doesn’t burn or peel anymore.

SN: Please, please make sure you always wear sunscreen, ESPECIALLY when using Obagi. It makes your skin more sensitive to the UV rays. Also, I get my eyebrows waxed and have never had a problem with skin coming off…

Janel @ 7:29 am

also, I used it for acne scars (pretty bad ones) and they are all but gone!

My dr told me to mix them together before applying. She said that isn’t what the directions said but wanted me to do it do it was a more even application. I have redness and peeling that occured in the first 6 days. My darkspots from acne are already going away and my skin is sore. This however was what i was told to expect. Try Cerve cream for the dryness. It is what my dr. reccomended and is working.

kristi @ 11:31 am

Hey! i have been using obagi nu-derm for about 7 weeks and I still have dry kind of peeling around my chin, nose and next to my lips. I also have seen red little circles like a pimple with no feel to it, also like a itchy rash in jaw line and sometimes in other places. They usually go away, but then start back up again in few days. I have what they call spider veins on my cheeks, and redden up like a lobster after exercising, and my skin is tending to be red at times. I will be at work and they have said ” your face is so red”. I don’t know what to do and if this is normal and if I should continue to use the product. Are you supposed to take breaks between cycles or do you continue as you would every day like cliniqe? What should we all do!!!!!!?

April 16, 2011

U @ 8:18 am

I have been having some boils around my chin and which is slolwy spreading and some white patch exactly started just between my brows and goes up like 1″ and 1/2 ” wide..It is very ugly looking as I have a wheatish complexion and this white skin in that spot is too obvious. I have been asked to start on Obagi..I am 3 days into the routine. My face ends up like a baboon 1/2 way through my work day. Itchy too. I was about to go to a dermatologist. But after seeing this page, I feel better. So, if this is day3 wonder what is in store for me in the coming weeks. I guess i better wear a towel or something covering my whole face and just keeping my eyes open at work. :-)

April 19, 2011

Mikayla @ 10:55 pm

I have been using the nu-derm for about 3 months now. As I approach my 40th my concern was thinning, dry, hyperpigmented and sun damaged skin, including signs of damage from previous smoking habit. It has been said that Retin A is the best kept beauty secret for women over 40.

MELINDA @ 7:33 am

MY MAIN CONCCERN FOR USING THIS PRODUCT IS UNEVEN TONE, AND I WANTED TO LIGHTEN SUN DAMAGE, IM ON MY 3RD WEEK, IM OKAY WITH THE PEELING AND ALL THAT GOOD STUFF, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE IM TANNED, THAT WAS THE WHOLE PURPOSE OF USING THIS, I DONT WANT TO LOOK TAN, I WANT EVEN SMOOTH DEWEY SKIN!!! I HOPE WHEN THE 20 WEEKS ARE UP THAT IM NOT UNHAPPY….SOMETIMES I WISH I WOULD HAVE NEVER STARTED!! I GUESS WE WILL SEE. GOOD LUCK TO ALL USERS!!! MY OH MY WHAT WE GO THROUGH….

April 24, 2011

Teri Norris @ 2:33 am

Wow! The success of this product sounds like a crap shoot! Should’ve read these comments before buying in. I’m 3 days into it and have not had anything ugly happen so far, but I can see now that there is no standard reaction. I’m 66 yrs old and just believed the doctor that I have a ‘dark mask’ that could be lightened. He did not say that I might have to go thru a lot to achieve the new skin and most importantly, he did not say that I would have to continue with the system to maintain it. As I am skirting retirement and will not have a lot of discretionary funds later (if any), this can only be a one time thing. Well, I will book mark this and check back in for the group support that this offers.

Hi everyone, I am 29 years old and from mixed race heritage and have just started using the obagi products on the 19th april. I have been suffering from acne, malasma in my pregnacies and continuous hyperpigmentation and spots on a daily basis. Tomorrow I will be goin into my second week and I have already experienced all the unpleasantness, sores redness, itchyness, blisters, sunburned glow etc the peeling started on the 3rd day. At present I am going through alot of mixed feelings reading all these reviews. I am trying to stay positive as this as cost me alot of money and I would love a clear complexion for my 30th birthday. I will keep you all updated. I’m hoping for the best.

Please help….I had great results several years back. I am on week 2. Itching and peeling as expected, but what is freaking me out are my eyes. I am putting all cream under my eyes, except exoderm, Is this correct? My eyes are so wrinkly. Besides obagi eye cream, is there anything I can do for a temporary fix to make them look better for a.special event in several days? And.when will my eyes look better? Thanks for any help. Hi Ms Glenda!
I too am a 35 year old African American with acne scarring and very bad post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. I am scheduled to see my doctor and start the Obagi system next Tuesday. After resding these posts, im actually pretty nervous about it. My son is Graduating high school May 28th and I want my skin to look BETTER not worse. can you please gove me some insight on what to expect. What I should or shouldnt do while using the system. How soon did you start seeing results? Im nervous and anxious! Ive tried EVERYTHING on my skin. Obagi is my LAST HOPE. Its super expensive and i dont want it to NOT work for me but at the same time, i dont want it to make me look WORSE before my sons graduation. AHHHHHHHH…. im going crazy! Any responses will be greatly appreciated!

Hi justin!
Whats going on? How are you coming along on the NuDerm system? I too am African American (35 y/o female) and Im considering thr Obagi System. DID IT WORK? POST AN UPDATE SOON PLEASE.

May 8, 2011

Jamie @ 5:28 pm

It will definitely get worse before it gets better. Been using Nuderm for 3 weeks and it’s definitely still peeling and burning and red. Though I have already seen amazing results in my discoloration and fine lines, it’s hard to see past the skin that is flaking off. For an upcoming event, stop using the retin-A(tretinoin) and the exfoderm 4 days prior, but keep using the other products. Once it’s over start the process again with the exfoderm and retin-A. I asked the same question to my doc and he said the peeling will stop until you start those two products again. Advice to everyone… stick with it! Nothing good comes easily! These products are pretty expensive, I can’t imagine that anyone would quit before giving them a fighting chance. It’s a bit painful, I know, but it’s already been so worth it for me. My face looks so much better already. When it’s so crazy dry that you all want to give up on it, use hydrocortisone in those spots, the tolereen that you can buy with the regime is made up of the same ingredient, but costs a ton more. It works! Only had to use it twice (small amounts) and took away the aggravation and peeling. Hope this helps a little.

Helen Dowling @ 10:34 am

Hi, I started using the whole system religiously from mid February. I can see results, my skin is clearer, but I am still peeling and my face can be very red at times – 13 weeks on. What are other peoples experiences… I keep waking up to ‘fluffy skin’as my daughter calls it and also by the end of the day my skin is cracking and peeling again. I know (believe) I am doing everything correct. Was my skin so bad that it needs to peel this much. I feel like im loosing at least a layer a day. Just want to know if this is normal…??

Rochelle @ 11:52 am

Hi All –

I just started on the Nu Derm Sunday and today is Wednesday. My cheeks are getting pink and I am starting to get a little peeling/dry skin on my chin and around the corners of my mouth. A couple of the products sting a little bit but my doc said that is to be expected for a while.

For those of you contemplating using it I was in your shoes. After reading all of these posts I started to think starting Obagi was maybe not such a good idea. But, after meeting with my doctor she assured me that sores, especially on the neck are rare, and recommended not putting the Trentinoin on my neck. Both my doctor and the aesthetician said the first two months are the hardest but to stick with it and I will be happy I did. With that being said things are good 3 days in…I will post back as I make my way!

Hope4MeJanet @ 5:23 pm

I started the tretinoin 0.1 3 weeks ago. 2 days ago I received a new tube of Tretinoin and Blender and now I’m peeling like crazy around the mouth and my skin is a little red. I’m in this for the long haul. I’m looking forward to new refreshed skin! I know over the counter stuff isn’t going to give me the results I want. I can’t wait! Bring on the peeling, bring on the red, new skin! If I get too red, I will back off a night or two if necessary… but I’m doing this! I started a blog at myobagijourney.bloodspot.com if you want to read about it. I’m posting pictures as well. Well, it’s not pretty, but it’s real right!

Hope4MeJanet @ 5:35 pm

@ Pat…. I was told only use moisturizer if you absolutely have to. I use it daily. Doesn’t seem to stop the progress or peeling.
@ Janet….. I can’t wait until I actually get compliments on my skin. That would be amazing! :)

May 27, 2011

Hope4MeJanet @ 12:18 pm

Dont worry, it’s not too bad! Well for me at least so far. Kind of made me look like I’m sunburned but I hear if it gets too bad you can back off a day or two. I’m going to tell people Im recovering from a sunburn if I get asked…. don’t want to fib, but don’t want everyone knowing my business.

May 29, 2011

Geraldine @ 1:43 am

Hi…good to read all your comments. A lot of mixed reviews.
…….so far i’m on Obagi day four. From the first application my skin felt better. I have pigmentation and acne marks and want to ease out a few of those lines that I caused from sun damage.

Thing is …… I used a Retin A product when I was younger, i’m now 39, so say it was around my 30′s. Used it for a few years. Worked well after the initial six weeks it takes to begin to notice a difference. Thing is, don’t wanna scare anyone, but I was just using the Retin A for acne. Thing is, at the time I didn’t do any research into the side effect of this product. Since then I am totally aware that when using Retin A one should always wear a sun protector as it increases sun sensitivity. My problem is that when I stopped using the product and bathed in the sun unfortunately that is when I developed my pigmentation on my face, the only area I had been using Retin A. I now know that once Retin A has been used the one must avoid sun exposure and always wear a sunscreen.

So basically…….as well as taking away the pigmentation, Retin A can also leave the skin more sensitive and susceptable for developing skin problems in the future. I so wish, when I was younger, that sun damage was as widely known about as it it now as it is best to prevent these issue’s.

Basically now….i’m trying to correct the damage done from childhood sun exposure and also Retin A application. Once a product is placed onto the skin such as Retin A that cause’s a mild peeling then it is necessary to always protect the skin in the future from the sun other wise it gets even worse than it was before.

So anyone who use’s Obagi …. yea, it will be or should be maintained.

So anyway, I’m starting on day four. My face is a little red and slightly tight and some slight peeling around the mouth area but otherwise it looks a lot better already. The only real problem I have with the product at the minute is the ammount of Parabens in the Obagi System. O well ..!!
C’est la Vie ..!!…..

I will post again with hopefully positive news….xo

Donna @ 5:22 am

I am 56yrs. I have worshiped the sun for at least 35 of those years, every summer I was tan from head to toe (so much that people always told me that my tan was gorgeous) and I will admit that it did look good.
I went to a Plastic Surgeon for my first ever Botox treatment…. that’s another story. Anyway, as he was doing the injections he said… you have allot of sun damage on your face and all I could say at the time was thank you. I didn’t think that I looked THAT BAD. As I was leaving I noticed a ad for Obgai. I read a bit about it and as soon as I got home I started my research. One week later I was back and purchased the Nu-Derm line. I have been to hell and back in the first two weeks my eyes are fried, my lips are scorched and the corners of my mouth are cracked, oh, do I itch and boy does it burn sometimes. I AM THRILLED TO DEATH THO. My old sun damaged skin will soon be gone and I will embrace my results. I can feel my new skin and see some great results already. I finish what I start and I hope everyone else can to. Our bodies are equiped with an amazing repair system. This line has been perfected, my thanks to Dr Obagi

June 4, 2011

Amanda @ 9:00 pm

My dermatologist had me do tbe tretinoin every other night and said do not put any products near eyes (use skeletal edge as guide ie. Eyesockets.) That skin is too sensitive and will wrinkle so using brow line as upper guide and under eye circle as lower guide should keep crows feet from worsening.

I have been using Obagi for 4 years due to the pregnancy mask that seams to cover my entire face. I was VERY impressed with Obagi, In fact I got use to my face being flawless. Took for granted all the complements on how BEAUTIFUL my skin was. Now that I have not used my OBAGI for 4 months I look HIDEOUS!!! My neighbour stopped by and I had just showered and he asked me if I had been rotor-tilling because I had mud all over my face :( I am so MAD at myself for stopping. Its not like I even ran out of product… Its been sitting in my bathroom. So now I start allover AGAIN. So Ladies if you do get the results that I did and think you can take some time off…. Be aware that you will be starting your 12 weeks allover again :( As for the ladies who have had issues with more wrinkles. I find that my skin is so DRY that they are more pronounced. To help with this Vitamin E oil is my best friend. I don’t use the Obagi eye cream … dont like it myself. So I use my own eye cream. Stick it out ladies, the results are AMAZING. And really who gives a SHIT what people think… I peeled ALOT and the redness is Brutal but so worth it. Defiantly didn’t stop me from going to Vegas, weddings, work… YOGA :) And remember to wear a Hat in the sun… your skin will be way more sensitive. Take care and Namaste.

Alright… so I’ve been somewhat discouraged as my skin looks red, very flakey and the skin tone is still uneven. I do see (I think, a lightening of the skin) but the redness around the mouth and the folds of the nose and smile lines are still pretty red. they are very peely and sort of embarrassing. looks like crusty milk around my mouth… hummm?
Oh well, im in it for the long haul…. it’s not pretty but I’m hoping to have some clear skin and great results as some of you have had! :)

Melinda @ 11:51 am

I have been using this system for about two 1/2 weeks now. I do have hyperpigmentation and freckling as well as acne scarring. I have noticed that the hyperpigmentation has lightened significantly. However, besides the acne scarring from having bad breakouts through my teens and twenties, I have not had breakouts in a long time…well, that was until I started using this. I am not sure if it is acne or some type of reaction as my face is also super red and I am a very light caucasion to begin with, so it looks as though I am sunburned and/or flushed at all times, and my face is burning burning burning and itchy! I am hoping the bumps, redness, and itchiness go away because the hyperpigmentation is definitely getting better and I would really like to stick it out! However, how long do these bumps last, if anyone else has experienced them? Also I am going on vacation in 10 days, so I am wondering if I should stop it for a few days and restart when I get back? I don’t want to go through all the peeling, redness and bumps all over again if this will end soon?

Jenn @ 9:02 pm

Hi…I have hormonal acne around my jaw line and it usually flares up during my menstrual cycle. I dont have acne anywhere else on my face. Im just sooooo tired of dealing with acne in my mid 30′s. I want to start using Obagi, but not sure as to start with the Nu Derm system or the C-rx system. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also has anyone ever used Aldactone for their hormonal acne? My dermatologist prescribed that to me, its an anti-androgen that blocks testosterone production, which causes to acne.

June 11, 2011

Jenn @ 2:22 pm

Well…. I went to my dermatologist and decided on the nu Derm system and am going to use the Renova as my retinoid. I am on dat two….my face has a burning sensation to it and it’s red. It just feels like a yucky sunburn. I AM HOPING BEYOND BELIEF THAT THIS SYSTEM DOES WONDERS FOR MY SKIN, AS I AM SO TIRED OF WASTING MONEY ON SO MANY OTHER PRODUCTS!!!! I will continue to post with updates incase anyone is interested in my progress.

giselle @ 8:25 am

I have used this product for many years now, and five weeks ago started another cycle. I started peeling the second day, and am still peeling around the muzzle (mouth and chin) area. My suggestion for those of you who want to do this AND wear makeup during the day is to get a Clarisonic and clean your face with morning and night, to get the flakes off. This works for me. During the day, I wear (the products and sunscreen) plus some primer, bronzer and blush. I find that foundation really accentuates the peeling that for me starts around 2 in the afternoon. If you have gone several days and are not peeling, you may want to look into trying a stronger tretinoin cream.

Jenn @ 7:16 pm

Giselle
Thank you for the information. I will look into getting the clarisonic….I am red and have mild peeling around my mouth and nose, I am using the Renova as my tretinoin and it is a 0.02%. I’m thinking maybe I should get a stronger tretinoin…..should I be peeling all over my face? I know it may sound weird, but even though it’s only been 3-4 days….I can honestly say that I can already notice a difference. My face feels softer and smoother…..I’m excited and can’t wait to see the results in like 6 to 8 weeks.

giselle @ 4:58 am

Jenn, my whole face has never peeled either. Nothing on my forehead, and almost nothing on my cheeks. Ever. If you’re peeling around certain areas, then I say what you’re doing is working.

MARCIE @ 6:37 pm

i JUST STARTED ABOUT THREE WEEKS NOW. I LOVE IT. MY FACE WAS NOT SO MUCH PEELINGIN BIG FLAKES BUT MORE SCALLY AND SMALL FLAKES. IT IS LIKE I HAVE NEW BABY SKIN UNDER ALL THAT LD SKIN. I BOUGHT A CLAIRSONIC AS WELL. I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. I DID NOT WANT OT BUY ONE AT FIRST BECAUSE IT WAS SO EXPEMSIVE BUT MY DAIGHTER HAS BEEN USING IT FOR HER ACNE AND IT REALLY WORKS SO I FEEL BETTER ABOUT SPENDING THE MONEY ON IT.
I WILL LETYOU KNOW HOW IT IT GOING AT THE END OF 6 WEEKS. MY DARK SPOTS ON MY CHEEKS ARE SO MUCH LIGHTER AND I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING…EVERYTHING! EVEN A DOCTORE PERCRIBES TRI LUMA. IT DID NOT MAKE MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE AT ALL. BUT MIXED WITH ONE OF THE BLENDER I USE IN THE WHOLE NUDERM SYSTEM IT IS WORKING WITH THEM. MY CHEEKS PEELED OFF A COUPLE TIMES AND THE SKIN UNDERNEATH IS TIGHTER AND MORE GLOWY LOOKING. EVEN MY MOM SAID SOMETHING BECAUSE SEH HAS SPOTS AS WELL. SHE IS GOING TO TRY IT AFTER I FINISH A FEW MORE WEEKS AND SHE SEES THE TOTAL COMPLETED TREATMENT.

I started the NuDerm Obagi system on June 9, so I’m ending day 6. From day 2 onward, I’ve had similar side effects mentioned by others: pain, redness, tight feeling, flaking, peeling and an elevated surface temperature to my face only. I remember similar effects when I’ve used Retin A in the pastm but I gave up. It’s an expensive system, so I’m going to stick with it. I’m just hoping for some relief from a perpetually flushed and flaky face soon! What helps me is using a primer before foundation and applying foundation with a damp facial sponge (specifically the Beauty Blender). I’m glad I found thus blog to see these side effects are typical. I will repost. At the end of week two. I’m hoping by the end of the system I will see a marked reduction in hyperpigmenta tion from sun damage and acne scarring as well as an increased firmness to my skin and hopefully some softening of forehead lines and nasolabial lines as well as around my eyes. Good luck to everyone!

it’s my 3rd day and my face is all red and painful..what can i put to minimize the redness & pain..

daisy @ 8:33 pm

hello! been using the product for a week now. it’s the same thing here. i’ve experience all the side effects common to those who just started using nu-derm. my friends were even telling me to stop using obagi.

i’ve complained to my doctor & she advised me to temporarily stop the blender & tretinion but continue the rest of the products. she also asked me to take ‘claricort’ (an anti-histamine) and synalar cream after toner. so far, my face is getting better now. i still have the peeling but the redness has considerably reduced.

June 22, 2011

Denise @ 9:57 pm

I’m finishing week two and the pain and redness have reduced quite a bit. Probably some aspirin or Tylenol could work for the pain. I think topically you supposed to avoid adding additional products. Although I took a 24 hour break from steps 4 (morning) and 5 ( night) because of the pain and flaking. This helped a LOT! Since then things have calmed. I’m still peeling and flaking a lot. I do apply a small amount of Palmers Skin Therapy oil to just the flaking areas, but only in the morning and at least 30 minutes after applying all the nu derm products.

I’m seeing some lightening of brown spots. Red spots, or acne scarring are still visible, but I expect these will begin to fade with time. I believe the products are working but it is a frustrating process.

Jaylijah @ 1:17 pm

Hi everyone. I started Obagi Nu Derm on June 15th and haven’t had any side effects. I know I’m not doing anything wrong because I did my research and made sure I had the prescription portion of the system. I will say that I was on the tretnoil cream for 6 months prior to starting the system and am wondering if my skin was too “use” to the cream for me to see any difference.

Now, I will admit that I bought my kit off the internet. I wasn’t trying to save money (there isnt a huge difference in $308 and $320) but my dermatologist had been out of it for 3 weeks. I won’t post the name of the website on here, but it is an actual physicians office with a good reputation that happens to have an internet site.

I want to know who went through the entire kit with no peeling and still had results? Because I’m contemplating returning my kit. I’ve had 2 light chemical peels done and had great results (with only 4-5 days of peeling) with those.

michelle @ 8:15 pm

I have read every post on here….twice. I too am using the obagi system. I began on June 3 so tomorrow will be staring week 4. I use the cleanser, toner, clear and mix the blender and tretinoin cream.05 each night. I have not missed a night. In the morning, I use the cleanser, toner, and clear followed by the exfoderm forte. I have missed this on about 4 occasions.

I did have peeling in the beginning but not much anymore. My face is very red. I don’t use it around my nose or my eyes. I feel dry for a brief time, however, I mostly feel very oily. My mother says my skin looks so much better. I had malasma brown spots on both cheeks but my lip area was the worst. My dermatologist acted like this was not a big deal and prescribed the blender and tretinoin cream. I opted for the entire system. I was told that my face would become angry and would peel. She also told me that it was caused by sun damage and hormones. I have taken hormones for 20 years as the result of a hysterectomy at a vey young age. I had never evev heard of melasma until then. I stopped taking my hormones on about day 6 which brought many mood swings into the mix. I am a school teacher so I have been able to avoid others as well as the sun.

I think I have noticed 2 wrinkles but they seem to come and go. I have very oily skin and this seems to be worse now. I did not have any wrinkles before.

I ususally wax my brows and am concerned about this. I am so red. That is a big concern for me too. Does anyone know if you ever reach a point of just maintainence and nice skin complexion? I can do the night time routine but i don’t really like the morning routine. When i have had to go out, I have just been using the sunscreen and my regular neutragena makeup.

I am pleased with the lightening of the dark spots. That has worked. I haven’t had but a few breakout spots so that hasn’t even been bad either. Any thoughts on the redness and duration of the use? Does anyone know if the melasma will stay away now that I am not taking the hormones? Stopping hormones cold turkey and obagi at one time has been difficult to say the least.

Denise @ 8:41 pm

3 1/2 weeks in and I am seeing some lightening of brown spots, especially particularly large one! I’m feeling a tautness, or firming of my skin and a softening of some lines. I’m only about 25% through the regime, so I’m feeling these are good signs of more to come.

Alyssa @ 11:14 am

I am on my 9th week. I had been using retin-a for 3 months prior to using obagi so i don’t think i experienced the horrible peeling that most seem to. At first I thought maybe it wasn’t working for me because my peeling was moderate. I would often exfoliate the dead skin with a washcloth on really peely days and that would cause my skin to be more raw for the next couple of days because I still applied the product. My biggest skin concerns are oilyness, large pores/scars, melasma, break outs. I have finally started to notice improvement in oilyness and very slightly with skin texture. Melasma and sun damage has been noticably reduced but not gone yet. Still hoping to see more improvement with scarring and large pores. This product is effective but maybe not as much for scarring and large pores that i would like. Definitley helps with discoloration.

Bridget @ 5:14 am

Hi everyone,

I started using the obagi nuderm on thurs 14 July. I am using both the blender and tretinion 0.1. My skin was red and started peeling on the second day and has just got more painful. I decided to skip this mornings routine because the skin around my mouth was so sore and has already peeled 3 times in three days, the new skin very tender. I have had to exfoliate at work after lunch and apply some vaseline so the worse areas. I think I will start my routine again tomorrow. I am feeling very self concious and not sure if I can go 6 weeks of this… When does it get better? Will my skin just get used to the products or will it stay red and peeling the whole time?

July 19, 2011

Denise @ 8:30 pm

Nearly 6 weeks on NuDerm. Peeling is very reduced. But still happens, primarily on my chin and around the mouth. Lots of reduction in age spots – very impressed. Still hoping to see a reduction in old acne scarring/red discoloration. I can’t see any decrease in pore size and was hoping to see some reduction. I know they will never be small, but a reduction in size would be great. I actually feel like I could go out without foundation. Something I just don’t leave the house without. It would be nice to feel that confident about my skin to do that and I almost do!

Does anyone use he Obagi Nu Derm system with Differin 0.1 gel? I am only on my 6th day. So far I have used the Differin (mixed with blender)3 times (every other night). Also using steps 1-4 at the appropriate times morning and night. So far just a touch of red no breakouts and very very little peeling. Any Differin and Obagi users out there?

July 22, 2011

Bridget @ 3:53 am

Today is the start if my second week using the obagi nu derm products. The first few days were HORRIBLE!!! I really started to regret paying so much money for it. I had to skip the routine on day 4 due to my skin being so red and painful. And the peeling was ridiculous! The bottom half of my face completely peeled everyday for the first 6 days, and the new skin was very tender and sore.
But good news… It has got much better. My face not nearly as red and not peeling that much. I woke up this morning with some around my mouth, but after ex foliating its has been fine all day.
I am now feeling a lot more positive… I went on this system due to acne on my cheeks and dark brown spots on my upper lip and forehead. My lip doesnt seem to have changed at all, but the acne has definitely got a bit better!

July 27, 2011

L.. @ 7:31 am

I have just started the Obagi system, this is my first week. Yes redness, yes itching, but yes also to POSITIVE changes…the plumpness in skin is noticeable around the mouth and lower cheek..the softness in skin on forehead and around the nose and a reduction in pore size already!. This is going to be a system that is unique for each person, but the point is, do find urself a good dermatologist who u trust, and they will tailor the system to u. the products are of a high grade and nothing brought over the counter will be as effective. Im going to give the system my best shot…and will keep u all posted. :) )

If you’re feeling a lot of inconvenience from the system,do not be discouraged. Instead, just keep going, be patient and persevering. Am on my third week now with the system. Am peeling, though lightly everyday and experiencing overly blushed face. It’s really taxing. But as the old adage goes, “no pain, no gain.” Good luck to all of us!

sharon @ 6:53 am

I started getting really red too and I took a couple of days off. Wow did I peel then! But then I got right back on the system and haven’t had problems with redness since. Just take a few days off from time to time if necessary and then go back to it. Your skin will turn back to its normal color.

sharon @ 6:59 am

My doc says use cortisone cream on the really sore parts of your face and take a few days off now and then if it gets too uncomfortable. There are also creams that help with irritation that you can purchase through the product line. She also mentioned using pure aloe to soothe. Try those things. Good luck

I am on my second week using Obagi Nu Derm. I haven’t had much peeling, just around nose and mouth. My skin is breaking out and my face feels itchy. I am using this product to help melasma. I’m concerned that I have not peeled as much as others mentioned. Hope product works and fades the melasma.

Denise @ 8:52 am

8 weeks on Obagi NuDerm today. All my large and medium age spots are gone. There us a faint sprinkling of very small spots left above my left eyebrow. Still some discoloration that is reddish in color. Pretty sure these are old acne scars. Often just wear a tinted moisturizer now instead of foundation. I still take a one day break from step 4 and 5. I still avoid both products on my chin and around the mouth. Those two steps are still too agitating to the skin in these areas. Still overall pleased with the system. Wish the peeling wasn’t still happening. Anyone starting the system? I’d just say that the first two weeks are the worst and then things calm down so just stick with it and take a day off every now and then to reduce the agitation.

Trisha @ 9:09 am

Well, I have nearly completed week 5 on the Nu Derm programme. The last 5 weeks have been a really hard road. Sometimes the redness, itching, peeling , dryness and pain have been almost unbearable. Especially at work. My skin got so dry and tight that my face cracked when I smiled or tried to eat! Remember to put some vaseline at the corners of your mouth and on the lines from nose to mouth after you use the cleanser and toner. This stops the products from migrating and causing soreness there. You can also purchase Obagi Action to moisturise the skin during periods of excessive dryness to help you get through. Remember, the whole idea is to shed those dead skin cells to all the redness, soreness and peeling is doing just that. It abates at around 6 weeks.

Joanie @ 6:43 pm

Next Friday will be 4 weeks on Obagi Nu Derm. I have to say that the past 3-4 days have been the ugly-est. I have been avoiding putting any product around my mouth area (corners-to chin area) as it is red and peely. It almost looks like burns. Thinking about skipping tonight and puttng Emu Oil on whole face. The sides of my nose peeled pretty bad too but is much better now and not as red. I am very happy that pigmentation spots on both chheks look 30% faded, And overall skin does have some clear glowey rosey areas. If only that could be my whole face. I have only broken out with 2 pimples so far, the secoind one may be worse. I do too get discouraged. But I didnt spend all that money to quit now. Hopefully better results are just aroung the corner.

ladymaui @ 9:32 pm

I have been using Obagi for about 3 weeks now. Yes, I had the peeling and the redness but no pain. I did notice however a huge increase in blackheads that seem to just come out of my pores with the peeling skin. But, now there is hardly any. My sun damage has significantly faded and most of my freckles and old acne scars have disappeared. My pores have tightened up and my skin does glow. I have always used foundation but for the first time in a while I finally feel comfortable to go out in public with just sunscreen. Hooray!!! I am still in the early stages and am very happy with the results so far.

‘m glad to know I’m not alone here… Throughout my life (even my teenage years) I have always had a good complexion. I mean, here and there I’d get a little breakout, but nothing to write home about. For the most part, my adolescence was smooth sailing as far as my skin went…

I have talked about this with a few other women around my age (35-55) and we all came up with the idea that it may be a biological/hormonal change that occurs for women at this particular age. There also may be a stress factor as we have a lot more to worry about and be responsible for than we did back then.

For my 40th birthday, my mom bought me a bottle of Made from Earth’s Vitamin Enhanced Face Firming Serum, and after a few weeks, people were commenting that I looked less tired. They even asked if I lost weight, been exercising or on vacation!

Since it works gradually over a few weeks, you notice a bit of difference yourself, but the people who don’t see you that often really notice a dramatic change. Smaller wrinkles are smoothed out and disappear completely, while large ones get smaller.

I would like to try try Obagi Nu-Derm but I’m a little hesitant about ordering it online due to some companies selling fakes. Can anyone recommend an internet site that they know to be true?

AVI @ 7:59 pm

Ok so i have been on the Obagi for 5 days now..I’m an indian born in Fiji with a fairly dark skin.I’m using Obagi to ged rid of acne marks and even out my pores..I have visibly large ones plus i also have sunlines on my forehead due to years of playing cricket out in the sun.Apart from the peeling which i don’t really mind cos i believe it’s normal my eyelids hurt at the moment.I think i let some cream touch the eyelids so to anyone new to the Obagi be very careful when applying near the eyelids. At the moment face stings cos of the peeling.Face feels so tight but i can’t wait for the end result.

Denise @ 6:29 pm

16 weeks as if today. My brown pigmentation spots are gone. There is some lightening of reddish acne scarring, though not completely gone. My skin is softer and smoother than it’s been since before puberty :-) It appears that my oiliness and dryness have balanced out. Softening of fine lines. The only thing that hasn’t changed are my large pores on my cheeks on either side of my nose and on my chin. So not perfect for me, but pretty darn close. Now I’m just nervous to ‘not’ use Obagi NuDerm.
