My Obagi-C Rx Skin Care System Review

Obagi has two different kinds of skin care systems - this is Obagi-C RX, less expensive and less invasive than the Obagi Nu-Derm system.
What is the Obagi-C Rx Skin Care System?
The Obagi-C Rx skin care system is a popular multi-step skin care system which helps prevent and treat pigmentation in the skin as well as photo damage and sun damage. This Obagi system is slightly less of an irritant when compared with the Nu-Derm System from Obagi, so its good for people with sensitive skin.
The system contains five essential parts to it including, C-cleansing gel, C-clarifying serum, C-Exfoliating day lotion, and C- SunGuard SPF30 and C-Therapy night cream. All these products in the skin care system are used in collaboration with each other to prevent skin damage and to help skin rejuvenate and enhance skin appearance.
How to Use Obagi-C Rx Products
There is a certain way in which to use this skin care system and the step by step program is below.
Morning Routine - Clean your face with the C-cleansing gel and pat dry. Once you’re happy that the gel has soaked into your skin you use the serum on areas which are affected. To use the serum, simply put a small amount on your fingertips and rub your fingers together and then simply pat the areas of your face that need treated. Don’t rub the serum in. Once you’ve let the serum dry, use the C-Exfoliating day lotion. Once you are finished you can then use the C-SunGuard SPF 30 cream and you’re done.
Night Routine - Wash your face again with the C-cleansing gel and then put on the C-therapy night cream.
You will have to wait for each step to dry and soak into your skin before you move on to the next step for it to work effectively.
The Review
The system itself is called Obagi-C because it is based on vitamin C factors that are designed to help with the appearance of your skin by treating and preventing skin damage. The serum in the system helps with freckles and other blemishes on your skin which you would like to be less obvious. The serum works as a sort of bleach on pigmented skin which I think is a good idea but I’m not sure it’s wise to bleach some areas of your face (in case a reaction occurs? It might be good to check with your dermatologist on this).
Ok, so basically, if you have blemished or sun damaged skin then this system is going to help treat the effects and prevent further damage.
The creams and the serum are a little smelly and it can feel like you’re putting a lot of chemicals on your skin due to the scent of some of the products, but don't let this put you off. The night cream especially has a strong smell and the serum has a very chemical smell. Of course the reason the products smell is because they do have chemicals in and usually it is perfume in skin care products which cause reactions and irritation.
For me personally the side effects for this system were not as bad as the Obagi Nu-Derm system since from what I understand the chemicals are not as potent. I’ve heard that some people who use this system experience very red skin and peeling but mine was pretty minor in comparison. I’m sure this is all normal though because the system is designed to renew your skin cells constantly so that I can understand why you might experience redness and peeling. It's just a natural phase in the healing process.
The levels of skin care which can be achieved from this system are prescription level and are said to work wonders for many people. As with all skin care systems you can’t expect it to work for everyone. This system is probably very effective for a lot of people but there will be some who it just doesn’t work for, depending on the reaction your skin has and how often you use it and a variety of other factors. I liked the results from the Obagi Nu-Derm System better, however I did see this system remove blemishes and freckles from my face that I wanted to get rid of.
The pricing of the system is quite reasonable when you consider how long you can use one pack for. You will be able to use one system for about 3 months and you are looking at spending about $250 for the system (or $83 per month, around $2.50 per day of use).
I also recommending comparing prices on Obagi-C RX products before you decide to buy. If you shop around you can get significant discounts on these skincare products.
Although it might seem like a lot you will have to consider the fact that for 3 months of high quality, prescription level skin care it isn’t so bad. I think the price is reasonable when you consider these factors.
The negative points are only really the redness and the peeling which may not happen for everyone. You are probably going to experience at the least a little redness on your face due to the renewal of skin cells like I did. Really I believe that this is natural for any system that's going to deliver dramatic results...your skin just isn't going to like it.
The positives are probably the fact that you can achieve some really dramatic results in your skins appearance with this product and you’re likely to notice a difference of some sort.
All in all, I think the system is good. The one thing I don't like is that it is a very time consuming regime. Putting on four products in the morning can really slow down your routine and because you have to let each one dry before you add the next step you may find yourself getting impatient.
To be honest, I think this skin care system is very similar to the majority of skin care products available. You either see results, and love it or you won’t and you’ll not bother with it. The best thing you can do is just try it out.
